Fans Of Reply 1988 Should Check Out This New Korean Movie Where Ryu Jun-yeol Plays A Totally Different Character

The 2015 Korean comedy-drama classic Reply 1988 garnered a huge following, and fans of the show should watch Ryu Jun-yeol’s new Netflix film where he shows a different side of himself. Considered one of the best K-dramas of all time, Reply 1988 helped put Ryu Jun-yeol on the map. The series focuses on a group of teenagers, each with different personalities and backgrounds who grew up in the same neighborhood.

While Ryu Jun-yeol has starred in several K-dramas and South Korean films since beginning his career in 2012, Reply 1988 is the one which he is mostly recognized for. The actor has worked with talented directors and cast mates throughout his career and has proved that he can take on a variety of roles. Ryu Jun-yeol has come a long way since appearing in Reply 1988, and he now leads the cast of Revelations, a new movie from one of the most acclaimed South Korean directors.

Ryu Jun-yeol Stars As A Pastor In Netflix’s Revelations

Ryu Jun-yeol Shows A Different Side To Him In Revelations

With the acclaimed director Yeon Sang-ho, who is known for Train to Busan, Jung_E, and Hellbound at the helm, the new Netflix crime drama film Revelations includes a cast of renowned South Korean actors led by Ryu Jun-yeol. Revelations centers around Sung Min-chan (Ryu Jun-yeol), a pastor who begins to punish Kang-rae, an ex-convict, after seeing images of Jesus in the sky and interpreting them as God’s will. The film also delves into Leon Yeon-hee, a police officer whose sister was kidnapped and tortured by Kang-rae.

Min-chan runs a small church, but he wants to be in charge of the new one that is being built by his mentor. However, as he gets entangled with Kang-rae, he does heinous things in the name of his belief that everything unfolding is a result of divine revelation. Revelations has its flaws, mainly because it tells a story that has been heard and seen in a lot of different movies and shows. However, Ryu Jeon-yeol, Shin Hyun-bin, and the rest of the cast all shine.

How Ryu Jun-yeol’s Performance In Revelations Compares To Reply 1988

Ryu Jun-yeol’s Character In Revelations Is The Opposite Of His Character In Reply 1988

If you liked Ryu Jun-yeol in Reply 1988, then watch Revelations to see how versatile the South Korean actor is. Ryu Jeon-yeol’s Min-chan is intense and a little scary. When he finds out his wife is cheating on him, he sits on the information and pretends everything is okay before he forces her to repent. However, it’s his encounter with Kang-rae that shows the kind of person he is. While he has a chance to report what happened between him and the ex-convict, Min-chan does the opposite and kidnaps Kang-rae, thinking he will tell him where the missing girl is.

While speaking to Screen Rant, Ryu Jeon-yeol shed a little light on his character in Revelations. The actor, who doesn’t agree with the description of Min-chan as being delusional, explained how he viewed his character. “Instead of thinking of him as being delusional, I personally believe that he really got those divine revelations,” said Ryu Jun-yeol. It’s Min-chan’s belief in the Lord’s will and the lengths he goes to to make it come true that makes him the villain of the story.

Ryu Jun-yeol’s performances in Reply 1988 and Revelations are quite different equally but impressive.

Ryu Jun-yeol’s character in Reply 1988, Kim Jung-hwan, is not as serious as Min-chan. Jung-hwan is known as the “Dog” of the group because he isn’t “quiet human yet.” The teenager is also sarcastic and funny but has a big heart underneath it all. Ryu Jun-yeol’s performances in Reply 1988 and Revelations are quite different but equally impressive. He shows his comedic side in Reply 1988 while proving that he is capable of taking on intense and serious roles in Revelations.
