The Strangers Chapter 2 Release Date & First-Look Image Revealed 1 Year After Reboot Trilogy Launched

The release date for The Strangers: Chapter 2 has been announced, along with the first image of the upcoming horror movie. This comes almost a year after the release of The Strangers: Chapter 1, which hit theaters in May 2024 and followed Maya and her boyfriend, Ryan, who get hunted by masked strangers while staying the night in a mysterious small town. The sequel will pick up after the ending of The Strangers: Chapter 1, which reveals that Maya (Madelaine Petsch) survived after being left for ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger director Renny Harlin returns from the previous installment.

Petsch shares the first image on Instagram of the sequel and reveals that The Strangers: Chapter 2 will be released on September 26, 2025. In the image, Petsch stares directly at the camera with a visible wound on her forehead. Additionally, in a press release from Lionsgate, the actress and the producers of the film, Courtney Solomon and Mark Canton, tease what to expect in The Strangers: Chapter 2 for the Halloween season. Read their comments and view Petsch’s post below:

Petsch: I promise that we’re making The Strangers—Chapter 2 as terrifying as possible, and I can’t wait to show you on September 26.

Solomon & Canton: Like Strangers fans everywhere, we’re thrilled for Chapter 2 — it’s the kind of film that’ll have audiences watching through their fingers. Bringing it to theaters this Halloween season feels perfect, and we can’t wait for everyone to see where the story goes next.

What The Release Date & The First Image Mean For The Strangers: Chapter 2

It Has Been Teased To Be Scarier Than The Previous Movie

2024’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 was a remake of the 2008 horror movie The Strangers and followed a similar story of a couple being haunted by a mysterious group hiding their faces with masks. However, unlike the 2008 film, the first movie in the reboot trilogy has Maya and Ryan meet many of the residents of the small town before spending the night and eventually getting hunted. Therefore, any of these residents may potentially be the masked strangers in the upcoming The Strangers: Chapter 2.

Not many details are currently known about the plot of the sequel, but a teaser trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2 was released in October 2024. In the trailer, Maya escapes from the hospital and gets in a car with four strangers. In the sequel, Maya will be paranoid that any of these people could be the masked figures who hunted her in the previous movie. While the first film was released in May, The Strangers: Chapter 2 will be released closer to Halloween, when people are on the lookout for a good scare.

Our Take On The Release Date & First Image

Hopefully, The Strangers: Chapter 2 Will Be Better Than The Previous

Scarecrow, Pin-Up Girl, and Dollface watch Maya and Ryan in The Strangers: Chapter 1.

As someone who loves both the 2008 film and its sequel, 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night, I was disappointed by the first movie in the reboot trilogy. Reviews for The Strangers: Chapter 1 were negative, with Screen Rant‘s own Rachel Labonte giving the film a score of 5 out of 10. However, hopefully, Petsch and the producer’s comments that the upcoming sequel will be terrifying are true. I’m not necessarily confident in the film, but I am still excited to watch The Strangers: Chapter 2 on September 26, 2025.
