Tim Allen Shares His Baffling Toy Story-Themed Inside Joke With Tom Hanks

Tim Allen reveals his confounding Toy Story inside jokewith Tom Hanks. Hanks and Allen are known for voicing leads Woody and Buzz, respectively, in the Toy Story movies. The original film in the franchise became the first-ever Pixar movie to be released in theaters in 1995. Since then, three sequels have materialized, with the most recent installment released in 2019. In addition to Allen and Hanks, the voice cast has included Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, and Annie Potts.

Speaking on social media, Allen shared an inside joke he has with Hanks relating to Toy Story.

The post shared two images — one of Hanks and one of Allen — both pointing to a Volkswagen car that says “Buzz” on it. Hanks has a bit of a confused expression while Allen looks happy in his pH๏τo. In addition, Allen included a caption that reads “Woody sends this to me as if he is really worried so I send his the real buzz with buzz.

What This Means For Toy Story

The Joke Itself Is A Bit Confusing

Toy Story 2 Woody being repaired

Although the connection to the Toy Story movie is clear with the car sporting Buzz’s name, it’s still an inside joke that only Hanks and Allen know. It’s possible that Hanks’ confused expression could allude to his wonderment about why the car is named Buzz, which is related to his spacefaring toy friend. Allen sends back “the real buzz with buzz,” to perhaps prove that he is not actually the car. However, even the context is not clear even with these few pointers.

Even with this inside joke, the car is a 2025 Volkswagon model called I.D. Buzz, which is an electric bus. The name itself has a strong meaning with I.D. signifying that it’s an electric vehicle, while the Buzz is a reference to the Volkswagen microbus and its electric power. Thus, it’s quite possible that I.D. Buzz doesn’t have anything to do with Toy Story in general, aside from the mere coincidence that it contains the name of the iconic space ranger toy.

Our Take On The Tim Allen Inside Joke

It Shows Him And Hanks Have A Good Relationship

I’m just as confused as to what Allen really means with his statement, but I appreciate that it indicates the actors are still friends after all these years. Both stars are confirmed to be returning for the upcoming Toy Story 5, which will be an exciting way for audiences to engage with the classic characters again. The camaraderie between Hanks and Allen likely makes their voice-acting performances even more interesting as they bring life to their lead characters.
