James Bond’s Amazon Era Begins As New Controlling Producers Confirmed, Issue First Statement

The James Bond franchise has officially confirmed its new producers, leading the charge as the Amazon era for the decades-long spy film series begins. Creative control over the James Bond franchise was given to Amazon in a deal with Barbara Broccoli, whose family had maintained the film franchise since 1961. This means the upcoming projects will be the first not stewarded by the Broccoli family, a major alteration as its future installments fall under Amazon MGM Studios’ umbrella.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the James Bond franchise has confirmed that Amy Pascal and David Heyman will be producing the movies of Amazon’s new era for the series. The pairing were previously rumored to have been chosen for the job, with this latest report confirming their creative control in the franchise going forward. This announcement also outright confirms neither Broccoli nor Bond producer Michael G. Wilson will be involved. Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Film Courtenay Valenti expressed her excitement about working with Pascal and Heyman on new installments for the franchise:

We are approaching every creative decision with James Bond, which Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have so masterfully steered, with the greatest sense of responsibility. Part of an elite group of producers who have developed and managed mᴀssive film franchises to box office success and critical acclaim, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are two of the most accomplished, experienced, and respected film producers in our industry. We are honored to be working with them on James Bond’s next chapter and are excited to deliver to global audiences storytelling that upholds the impeccable legacy of this beloved character.

In addition, Pascal and Heyman also made their first statement about their roles in the franchise. The pair expressed graтιтude for being trusted to follow Broccoli and Wilson as the franchise’s producers, promising to “keep the spirit of Bond very much alive” as this next chapter from Amazon begins. Check out what Pascal and Heyman had to say below:

James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema. We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson who made so many extraordinary films and honored and excited to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.

What Pascal & Heyman’s Roles Mean For James Bond’s Future

The Producers Have Impressive Films Under Their Belts

Both Pascal and Heyman have been producers on various high-profile film productions over the years, each having major experience with various franchises. Pascal’s biggest focus has been on Spider-Man movies following his incorporation into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having produced all three alongside the Venom trilogy and Sony’s animated Spider-Verse films. She’s also produced the action thriller The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and is attached to the upcoming sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name.

As for Heyman, his claim to fame is producing all eight Harry Potter movies and the three Fantastic Beasts films, alongside the first two Paddington movies. His other well-known projects include post-apocalyptic thriller I Am Legend, alongside musicals like Barbie and Wonka. Both he and Pascal are attached to the Netflix coming-of-age dramedy Jay Kelly, featuring an ensemble cast that includes George Clooney and Adam Sandler. Given their franchise experience, both producers seem like worthy fits to usher Bond into a new era under Amazon.

Our Take On Pascal & Heyman Producing The Bond Franchise

They’re The Perfect Picks

Daniel Craig looking shocked as James Bond in No Time To Die

With both producers having already proven themselves stellar at handling beloved franchises, it sounds like James Bond will be safe in their hands. While there’s no confirmation yet as to when the upcoming Bond 26 is going to, inevitably, enter production, their involvement means they can pull from their many past productions to ensure it does the franchise justice. Their future plans for Amazon’s era of the series will likely become clearer as more information about their plans gets revealed.

The latest James Bond movie to come out was No Time to Die in 2021, marking Daniel Craig’s final time as 007.
