The screenplay was rewritten by Stephen Chbosky. The film stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, and was released on March 17, 2017. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences and grossed $1.2 billion worldwide on a production budget of $254.6 million, surpᴀssing the original film, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2017.
In a vast, grandiose château located in the heart of France, a handsome but cruel and selfish prince hosts a ball to which the most beautiful women in the entire country have been invited. They all dance in hopes of winning the prince’s love and admiration, to the singing of Madame de Garderobe.
The ball is interrupted by the arrival at the château of an old beggar woman hoping to find shelter from the raging storm. All she had to offer the prince was a rose. Repulsed by her appearance and furious at the sudden interruption, the prince mocks her and refuses the rose. The woman then transforms into a beautiful enchantress, stunning the prince and frightening all his guests.
The prince begs the enchantress’s forgiveness, but seeing that there is no love in his heart, she transforms him into a terrifying beast and his servants into household objects, before erasing himself, the castle, and the servants from the memory of the villagers, as well as those close to them.
