“God Forbid A Man Have Hobbies”: Marvel Fans Are Having A Field Day Imagining How MCU Bucky Barnes Would Respond To The Declassified JFK Files After Captain America: Brave New World

Marvel fans are realizing that a real-life government leak may have an actual effect on Bucky Barnes in the MCU. On March 18, records about President John F. Kennedy’s ᴀssᴀssination that were previously withheld for classification were officially released. The MCU has adapted real-life situations into the franchise before, and Marvel fans are already finding ways how this could have ramifications on a certain character. Captain America: Brave New World confirmed that Bucky is currently a congressman in the MCU. If the JFK files were made canon in the franchise, they would have a huge personal effect on Bucky’s career.

In a TikTok posted by mrs.henry_barnes, a mock news article is presented with the headline “Future Congressman Barnes under fire as JFK files resurface” set to the song “Sorry for Party Rocking” by LMFAO. Fans in the comments are running with the joke as user michelleclark6675 says “God forbid a man have hobbies,” and user jinxnotreal says “I have Matt on the phone getting him the proper representation don’t worry everybody” in reference to Matt Murdock/Daredevil’s legal services. Some onlookers may not understand what Bucky has to do with the JFK leaks, but their MCU history is actually intertwined.

What The Bucky Barnes JFK Jokes Mean

In a universe of superpowered humans and extraterrestrial life, Bucky still manages to have one of the wildest journeys in the MCU. He started as a soldier in World War II, got kidnapped and brainwashed by HYDRA, and then ended up working as an ᴀssᴀssin for the Russian government. Despite all of that, he is currently a congressman in the MCU. Redemption is something that Bucky truly deserves, but it doesn’t erase the fact that he’s committed war crimes. The fact that he’s now a congressman is bewildering, especially considering what he allegedly did to JFK in-universe.

If the recent JFK files were adapted in-universe, there’s no telling what new details about Bucky’s crimes would be exposed.

It’s canon in the MCU that the Winter Soldier was the one to shoot President Kennedy. If the recent JFK files were adapted in-universe, there’s no telling what new details about Bucky’s crimes would be exposed. Ever since his new job was revealed, fans have been speculating about how he got voted into office in the first place. Some argue that he had the Baby Boomer vote, while TikTok user dg_cosplaydarling says “The Gen Zs in the MCU definitely rallied together for this vote.” However, these files being released may throw a wrench in Bucky’s future re-election plans.

Our Take On The Bucky Barnes JFK Jokes

Bucky Barnes' face revealed in Captain America_ The Winter Soldier

The released JFK files entering the MCU are ultimately a joke, but the fact that Bucky sH๏τ JFK in-universe still stands. Fans are correct in pointing out how these files would have a detrimental effect on his career as a congressman considering how the files are public knowledge. Even if parts of the population didn’t know that the Winter Soldier sH๏τ JFK before, they are bound to now. Bucky has managed to succeed with his political career despite the past crimes he’s committed, but the JFK files may be the reminder that everyone needs.

However, the leaked files may not strip Bucky of his job completely. In a mock statement posted by Twitter/X user BuckyHQ_, Congressman Barnes stated that the JFK claims don’t define him and that he’ll continue to focus on serving the public as best as he can. Many of his supporters may be willing to stand by him and emphasize the fact that he was brainwashed, while others may argue that he’s already done his atonement. Luckily for Bucky, the real-life JFK files don’t seem to be a major pressing detail that Marvel is jumping to adapt in the MCU.
