Infamous Fantastic Four Director Sets First Movie In Five Years With Horror-Thriller Led By Suits LA & Witcher Actors

With five years gone since he last stepped into the director’s chair, Josh Trank has set his next project with a new horror-thriller. After having worked as an actor and on a variety of shorts and in behind-the-scenes roles on other projects, Trank quickly found the spotlight in Hollywood with his feature directorial debut, Chronicle. The found footage superhero movie, which he developed with writer Max Landis, was a critical and commercial hit on its 2012 release, having also helped launch future stars Dane DeHaan and Alex Russell, as well as rising star Michael B. Jordan.

Despite this quick launch, however, Trank’s career hit an infamously hard speedbump with 2015’s Fantastic Four, an attempted reboot of the Marvel franchise while still under Fox’s banner. Marred by reported creative differences and studio interference, the film became one of the biggest flops in the superhero genre, losing the studio upwards of $100 million, while the backlash led to Trank leaving social media and taking a hiatus. He would later return for the Tom Hardy-led Capone, a biopic of the тιтular gangster’s final days as he deteriorated from various health problems, which was similarly poorly received.

Trank Is Returning With Send A Scare

The Film Will Partner Him With An All-Star Cast, Including Suits LA & Witcher Alums

Robbie Amell as Connor from Code 8 Part II

With a few years now gone since Capone‘s poor reviews, Trank has found his next directorial effort with Send a Scare. The movie, which he co-wrote with Andrew Ryan on a story treatment from the latter, centers on an interactive horror start-up who, while trying to get their names out to financiers, become the target of a real masked killer who hijacks their demonstration. The movie is being produced by Kinogo Pictures and Range Media Partners.

Now, ᴅᴇᴀᴅline has brought word that Trank is returning to filmmaking for the horror-thriller, Send a Scare. The film has also already found its ensemble cast, with Suits LA‘s Victoria Justice and The Witcher alum Robbie Amell set to lead, alongside ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine‘s Karan Soni, Capone‘s Noel Fisher, 1883‘s Mackinlee Waddell and Warfare‘s Adain Bradley. In addition to starring, Justice and Amell are executive producing the film alongside Ryan, Trank, Steven Schneider and Amy Lippens.

Our Take On Trank’s Directorial Return For Send A Scare

A New Genre Might Be Just What He Needs

In the wake of Chronicle‘s success, Trank has undeniably struggled to regain his foothold in the world of filmmaking, but Send a Scare could be the thing he needs to make a comeback. All three of his films thus far have included elements of horror, with even Capone featuring psychological horror moments, but none have been a proper dive into the genre, and considering the talent he’s ᴀssembled for in front of the camera, diving into something new may give him a new creative angle for any future projects if the movie is a success.
