Sydney Sweeney has experienced a meteoric rise to fame in recent years. Though she started out as a child actor, getting small roles beginning in 2009, Sweeney’s big breakout moment came in 2021 and 2022. In those years, she became famous for playing Olivia Mossbacher in The White Lotus season 1 and got more recognition for her part as Cᴀssie in Euphoria season 2. Both parts ended up earning her Emmy nominations, though she did not win the coveted prize for either role.
Euphoria and The White Lotus acted as Sweeney’s gateway to more roles on both the big and small screen. Last year, she played the lead role in the nunsploitation horror movie Immaculate, for which she garnered praise. She will also play the lead role in an unтιтled biopic of the 1990s female boxer Christy Martin and co-star with Amanda Seyfried in the Paul Feig movie The Housemaid. Now, Sweeney has been cast in another starring movie role, which has unique source material.
Sweeney Will Lead I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl
The Movie Is Based On A Reddit Short Story
Sweeney is now set to star in the movie adaptation of I Pretended To Be a Missing Girl. The movie is based on the short story “I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family.” by Joe Cote. Interestingly enough, Cote’s story was a short story originally published on Reddit, as part of the thread “r/nosleep.” The story tells the tale of a person who, as the тιтle would suggest, impersonates a missing girl in an attempt to steal her family’s money, but quickly realizes she has made a terrible mistake. The story was posted about four years ago and has thousands of upvotes.
Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Sweeney will now play the lead in I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl. The project is in the works at Warner Bros. In addition to starring, Sweeney will also produce with her Fifty-Fifty Films label. Fellow producers include Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Trevor Engelson, and Aaron Folbe. Eric Roth will adapt the screenplay. Exact story and character details have yet to be revealed.
Our Take The I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl Movie
The Film’s Screenwriter Is An Oscar-Winner
I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl is a fairly unique project, as it is not every day one sees a movie adaptation of a Reddit original short story. Even more surprising is the fact that the story will be adapted by Roth, who is an Oscar-winner (for adapting Forrest Gump) and multi-time nominee. As the movie continues production, it will be interesting to see how this A-list Hollywood team, including Sweeney, can elevate the project from Reddit story to an engaging thriller.
