As Snow White Finally Hits Theaters, Another Live-Action Disney Princess Remake (With Much Better Reviews) Is Trending On Streaming

Disney has been producing animated films for decades, which have become more successful over the years. From Beauty and the Beast to The Lion King, the brand put out some critically acclaimed and still-loved works throughout the 20th century. The company later bought Pixar and produced some of the modern era’s most acclaimed and successful animated films, including last year’s Inside Out 2, which was the highest-grossing animated movie of all time for a brief period, before being dethroned by 2025’s Ne Zha 2.

In recent years, however, Disney has been reviving their past animated successes to prop up live-action remakes. This kicked off with Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, which became an increasing trend throughout the 2010s and 2020s. Most recently, Disney is releasing a live-action Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. The first Snow White reviews are in, but they are skewing mixed to negative, which is getting a 47% Tomatometer. Leading up to this release, another of Disney’s live-action efforts is now doing well on streaming.

ScreenRant‘s Rachel Labonte gave Snow White 5 out of 10 stars, noting, “The CGI-created dwarfs have earned plenty of scorn already, and I wish I could say they aren’t really that bad on the big screen, but it only gives the whole movie an artificial sheen.”

Cinderella Is Dancing Its Way Onto The Streaming Charts

The Movie Got Better Reviews Than Snow White

Cinderella is now on the streaming charts. The live-action adaptation starring Lily James came out in 2015 and really launched the big wave of Disney remakes. Unlike Snow White, Cinderella received fairly positive reviews overall, scoring an 84% Tomatometer and 78% Popcornmeter. The film also did fairly well at the box office, making over $542 million against an estimated $95 million budget. Following Cinderella, several other 2010s live-action adaptations came, including The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Aladdin, and the infamous The Lion King in 2019.

Per Disney+, Cinderella is now trending on the streaming service. In the top 10 overall charts — which includes movie and TV тιтles from both Disney+ itself and their bundled streaming partner, Hulu — the 2015 live-action film came in at no. 9. Also making it into that top 10 today (March 20) were Moana 2, Daredevil: Born Again, Win or Lose, Good American Family, Disney’s Snow White: A Special Look, Anora, Lilo & Stich 2: Sтιтch Has a Glitch, Moana 2 Singalong, and Bill Burr: Drop ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Years.

Our Take On The Cinderella Live-Action Movie’s Success

How Will Snow White Do In Theaters?

The fact that both the Snow White live-action preview and the live-action version of Cinderella are trending on the streaming charts today shows that audiences have an active interest in Disney’s live-action adaptations. When trailers for such films are released, they are usually subject to copious amounts of criticism. On the other hand, the box office history of The Lion King, Aladdin, and other live-action adaptations shows that people are still going to these movies. As Snow White opens this weekend, it will be interesting to see how the movie fares.
