Pixar’s New Movie Just Missed Out On A Perfect Inside Out 2 Connection

Elio is the upcoming alien movie from Pixar Studios that follows a young boy as he’s abducted by a UFO and torn from his family to find a new home in outer space. The film has been subject to several frustrating delays and setbacks over the past few years, but a new trailer for Elio has just been released and a new release date of June 20th was announced.

While many fans have been searching for Easter eggs in the new Elio trailer, there doesn’t seem to be too much connecting this new family adventure to Pixar’s previous movies. The studio always includes nods and references between films, but it seems like audiences will have to wait until Elio’s release to discover any of these secret details. This could be due to Elio’s major behind-the-scenes changes that happened when new directors were brought in for the project.

Elio Could’ve Used Inside Out’s Emotions In The Mom’s Book

The Trailer Includes A Perfect Missed Opportunity

There’s one specific scene in Elio’s new trailer that feels tailor-made for an Inside Out reference, but the film just stopped short of taking this opportunity. At the beginning of the trailer, Elio’s mother asks him to identify how he’s feeling by pointing to his emotions in a book тιтled “Parenting Your Spirited Child.” On the pages are several faces depicting different emotions, including “angry”, “stressed”, “happy”, “sick”, and “sad”. These almost perfectly line up with the core emotions in Inside Out, making it the perfect opportunity to use these characters instead of the cartoon faces.

However, it’s worth noting that the colors of the faces used in Elio are almost identical to the Inside Out characters: anger is red, happy is yellow, sad is blue, etc. Perhaps this is a reference after all, just a much subtler one than most audiences would have expected from this obvious opportunity. There are several great moments in the Elio trailer, but this feels like a particularly fun one for long-time Pixar fans.

Elio Could Still Connect To Inside Out 2 In Other Ways

The Film Could Include Some Background References

Easter eggs are nothing new for Pixar movies, as each new film often contains some kind of reference to those that came before (and sometimes after) it. Certain objects like the yellow ball from Toy Story, the Pizza Planet truck, and notably the subtle code “A113” appear in the background of plenty of different Pixar movies throughout the years. There’s every chance that Elio will continue this trend, referencing the recent Inside Out 2 or even teasing another movie that’s coming in the near future.
