Jason Momoa opens up on how the DC Universe is doing a comic-book-accurate Lobo costume for his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. After having played Aquaman in the DCEU movie timeline, Momoa’s time with the superhero genre is far from over, as he is getting ready to join James Gunn’s DCU – but this time in a very different role. Set to be introduced in Supergirl. Woman of Tomorrow, Momoa will be playing DC’s famous bounty hunter, Lobo, though details on his involvement have remained heavily under wraps.
However, in a new interview with ScreenRant’s own Ash Crossan for his new film, A Minecraft Movie, Momoa opened up about bringing Lobo to life on the big screen in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. When asked about Lobo in Gunn’s DCU, Momoa discussed several things about the character, including that he loves the DC source material, and that it’s a role he is nervous about portraying, as he stated the following:
Ash Crossan: Last time we talked, things had changed significantly. It’s really exciting. You’re entering this world as another character, Lobo, in Supergirl. He’s not in the comic the movie is based on, so what can you tease about his entrance and the greater plan? What are you most excited about?
Jason Momoa: Well, this is the role I’ve always wanted to play. That’s the comic I loved, so I’m really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It’s pretty big. I don’t want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty ᴅᴇᴀᴅ on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I’ll say the bike’s really cool.
Ash Crossan: Do you think we’ll be hanging out with him for a while?
Jason Momoa: I hope so. I hope so. I hope so. It’s her movie, so it’s great. I just come in for a little bit.
What Jason Momoa’s Comments Mean For The DC Universe’s Lobo
Ever since Momoa was revealed to officially be joining the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow cast, it has been one of the most discussed aspects of the film, especially with the fact that one of the main Justice League stars from the DCEU is already joining the DCU. From Momoa’s comments, while his run as Aquaman may have ended on a low note, he is ready for a new chapter as Lobo, with this becoming a dream role come true. With the rich history of Lobo in the comics, there are many directions the DCU can take him in the future.
While Lobo will be a new addition for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the idea of having Momoa play the role has been on DC Studios’ radar for quite a long time. Even Gunn revealed recently Momoa’s Lobo casting was something that they already had on their minds, which makes his addition to the DCU even more exciting. What the future has in store for Momoa after Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow remains to be seen, as DC Studios haven’t revealed what other movies and shows he may show up in next.
Our Take On Jason Momoa’s Lobo Comments
Hearing that Lobo will feel authentic to his comic book counterpart in the DCU is incredibly promising, especially as it comes from a big fan of the character himself. The next thing, however, is for DC Studios to finally reveal Momoa’s comic-book-accurate Lobo, as the fans are actively waiting to see his design. Hopefully, as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow continues to shoot, Momoa’s Lobo will be revealed sooner rather than later.
A Minecraft Movie opens in theaters on April 4.
