Sadie Sink has been cast in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 4, and a new theory suggests she has the talent to bring Spider-Woman from Sony’s animated Spider-Verse franchise into live-action in the MCU. Currently, not much is known about Spider-Man 4, which is scheduled to be released in July 2026, but Stranger Things star Sadie Sink’s casting in Spider-Man 4 has spurred theories about who she might be playing opposite Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. A new theory might have the answer, and it connects the MCU to one of Sony’s most popular Spider-Man movie franchises.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures confirmed more Spider-Man movies would be coming to the MCU shortly before Spider-Man: No Way Home’s premiere in December 2021. However, after No Way Home ended with everyone forgetting Peter Parker, it’s unclear what the future holds for Spider-Man, though it seems he’ll be gaining a new supporting cast. Sadie Sink is the first in this new line-up, and there has been huge speculation about who she’ll play, with popular choices being Jean Grey, Firestar and even a new Mary Jane Watson, but another theory suggests someone else entirely.
Sadie Sink Could Play The Live-Action Version Of Spider-Verse’s Gwen Stacy In Spider-Man 4
Sadie Sink Would Be Great As Gwen Stacy In The MCU
While there are already a number of suggestions about who Sadie Sink could play in the MCU, including a new incarnation of Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love interest from Marvel Comics, a new theory suggests someone we’ve already met. A theory shared by ComicBook poses the idea that Sadie Sink could be playing a live-action version of the animated Gwen Stacy from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. This could bridge the gap between the MCU and Sony’s successful Spider-Verse movies, which is a very enticing prospect.
When you consider the animated version of Gwen [Stacy] in the Spider-Verse movies, she’s not too far off from Sadie Sink with a fade haircut.
2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its 2023 sequel have become some of Sony’s most successful projects, and the highest-grossing movies to come out of Sony Animation. It would be fantastic to see some of the characters introduced in these animated movies make the move to the live-action MCU, and Sadie Sink has the perfect appearance, comedic and dramatic talent, and name recognition to portray Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman. This version of Gwen Stacy is pivotal to the Spider-Verse movies, so is the perfect candidate to jump to live-action.
Spider-Man 4 Is The Perfect Place To Bring Spider-Woman & The Spider Society Into The MCU
Marvel Studios Can Make Spider-Man 4 A Clever Multiverse Movie
Following Spider-Man: No Way Home, there was some dispute about whether Spider-Man 4 should be a multiverse movie, like its predecessor, or a street-level project, featuring Peter Parker as a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Featuring characters from the Spider-Verse franchise would make Spider-Man 4 even more focused on the multiverse than No Way Home, but this would make sense for the upcoming sequel. Gwen Stacy was seen to be forming a team of multiversal Spider-People at the end of Across the Spider-Verse, and she could recruit Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Alternatively, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could find himself thrust into the world of the Spider Society, just as Miles Morales was in Across the Spider-Verse. Peter Parker and Doctor Strange’s actions in Spider-Man: No Way Home seemingly caught the attention of Miguel O’Hara and the Spider Society, so it would be great to see their incorrect Earth-199999 joke from the 2023 sequel get paid off in the MCU proper. Spider-Man 4 will be set almost at the very end of the Multiverse Saga, so it would be brilliant to see Peter Parker interact with more Spider-Man variants before Avengers: Secret Wars.
Why Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Verse Voice Actor Probably Won’t Play Her In Live-Action
Hailee Steinfeld Already Has A Key Role In The MCU
Okay, but then why Sadie Sink? Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman already has a voice actor in the Spider-Verse franchise who could easily bring her character to life in the live-action MCU. This would be all well and good if Hailee Steinfeld didn’t already have a major role in the MCU, and a role that is only expected to become even more important, what with the upcoming formation of the Young Avengers. As the oldest member of the team, Kate Bishop, Hawkeye’s protégé, is central to the Young Avengers, and Steinfeld may not want to portray two MCU characters.
Since Hailee Steinfeld will be preoccupied with portraying Kate Bishop, Sadie Sink would be a fantastic replacement for her as the Spider-Verse movies’ version of Gwen Stacy. Sadie Sink’s role of Max Mayfield in Stranger Things has displayed her comedic, dramatic and fantasy-inspired acting abilities, while she has the youth, charisma and energy to portray a character as action-based and entertaining as Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman. She would make a formidable ally to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, perhaps even a new love interest, and could create the opportunity for other Spider-Verse characters to also appear.
Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman In Spider-Man 4 Makes Another Highly-Anticipated MCU Debut Even More Likely
Gwen Stacy’s Biggest Ally Could Also Make His MCU Debut In Spider-Man 4
The idea that Gwen Stacy could make the move from the Spider-Verse movies into the live-action MCU means other animated heroes could do the same, and this might include Miles Morales’ Spider-Man himself. Miles Morales’ debut in the MCU has been the subject of huge speculation and anticipation ever since Donald Glover made an appearance as Aaron Davis, Miles’ uncle, in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Since then, Morales’ existence in the MCU has been teased several times, so it would be great to see Spider-Man 4 finally introduce the young wall-crawler.
Miles Morales is voiced by Shameik Moore in the Spider-Verse franchise, but 29-year-old Moore is too old to portray Morales in live-action. Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin has been a popular fan-cast for Miles Morales, which could possibly see him reunite with his Netflix co-star Sadie Sink if she appears in the MCU as Gwen Stacy. Miles Morales could prove crucial to Avengers: Secret Wars and future Spider-Man movies, so his live-action debut in Spider-Man 4 could be important, and it would be a good choice for this to capitalize on the success of Sony’s animated Spider-Verse movies.
