Rachel Zegler Reflects On Why The Snow White Remake Is Important For The Next Generation: “I Hope We’ll See A New Dawn Of Kindness And Acceptance In The Next Couple Of Years”

Snow White star Rachel Zegler talks about why it’s important for Disney to remake the classic movie. Scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 21, the Disney live-action remake of the 1937 animated classic stars Zegler in the тιтular role. However, her casting, changes the new version made to the original story, and how the seven dwarfs are handled have contributed to the 2025 movie facing numerous controversies before even being released.

In an interview with Allure, Zegler discusses the importance of reimagining the classic fairy tale for the next generation. The actor shares that Snow White tells a story about how kindness and generosity can affect changes without a “clenched fist,” which sends an important message. She explains that in the movie, the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) uses anger to cover up her vanity and insecurity, but it “doesn’t bring the brightest future.” In the movie, the Disney princess also shows her vulnerability, but it’s not depicted as a weakness. Check out Zegler’s comments below:

That’s why it’s so important for the next generation to see movies like Snow White — to realize there’s nothing wrong with choosing to do what’s right and that it doesn’t have to be with anger or a clenched fist. Anger can be a powerful emotion, but it doesn’t bring the brightest future. [It uncovers] fear, insecurity, and a lack of love. Snow White chooses kindness and still makes change. Power takes many forms. I hope we’ll see a new dawn of kindness and acceptance in the next couple of years. And people don’t see the need to use hate to cause further division.

I think she exists. I genuinely think she exists in all of us.

It was right before we started shooting, which is like getting rewrites before opening night. It’s such an interesting thing to have happened. Snow White sings, “No more sending whispers to the water because you are everything you’ve been wishing and waiting for.” And that’s a beautiful, beautiful thing. It makes me weepy. You are everything you’ve been wishing and waiting for—someone fearless, someone fair, someone brave, someone true. It’s possible for all of us, should we choose to accept that challenge.

You see Disney Princesses cry quite often, and it’s never looked at as a bad thing. We see Cinderella cry, we see Belle cry. We even see Snow White pray in the original animated movie, which I think is the only time you ever really see a Disney Princess pray. And the thing is, she prays for Grumpy—the one person in that cottage who doesn’t want her there. What a badᴀss.

What Rachel Zegler’s Comment Means For The Snow White Remake

The Disney Remake Sends An Important Message

The 2025 Snow White movie has been heavily criticized since it was first announced. Many have voiced their complaints about Disney’s effort to retell the classic story, suggesting that the company should focus on telling original stories. Zegler’s comment highlights the time-enduring quality of the fairy tale and the core theme of the remake. Throughout the years, the Brothers Grimm’s original Snow White story, published in the 1812 short story collection, has received several updates due to different needs at different times. The actor’s comments shed light on the important message behind the remake and its relevance.

The first reactions to the live-action Snow White have been largely positive, with many praising the film’s ability to capture the magic in the 1937 version and Zegler’s stunning movie performance. In the same interview, the star also responded to her controversial casting and revealed that the decision wasn’t determined by her cultural background but simply by her ability to perform the songs. Critics have also noted the message and the storytelling’s ability to move the audience.

Our Take On The Snow White Remake

The Remake Sounds Incredibly Promising

Despite being criticized for so long, Snow White sounds like a solid Disney remake that sends a much-needed message. Even though its story may have originated long ago, every remake and update reflects their respective times. Disney’s retelling has been focused on the relevance and magic of the story. Even the 1937 version has strayed far from the original fairy tale, which is too brutal and bloody for children.

Snow White‘s trailers show that the movie may be different from what fans expected, but it deserves a chance.

Time changes, and so do people. It simply doesn’t make sense to expect a story to stay the same every time it’s being told. Zegler’s comments remind potential viewers of what’s truly important in a movie, which is the characters, world-building, the story, and the message, as opposed to the behind-the-scenes drama. Snow White‘s trailers show that the movie may be different from what fans expected, but it deserves a chance.
