Happy Gilmore 2 Trailer: Adam Sandler Returns 29 Years Later To Find His New Happy Place On The Green

The official trailer has been released for Happy Gilmore 2. Released in 1996, Happy Gilmore was an Adam Sandler movie that saw a hockey player transfer his skills to the golf world after his grandmother’s house gets repossessed by the IRS. Nearly three decades later, Netflix is releasing Happy Gilmore 2. Kyle Newacheck directs the sequel, which features a leading cast including Sandler, Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Christopher McDonald, Travis Kelce, and Dennis Dugan. It is set for release on July 25.

Now, Netflix has released a trailer for Happy Gilmore 2. The trailer begins with the тιтular Happy Gilmore looking at statues of golf legends, which finishes up with an exaggerated version of his own face. Aged up a few decades from the previous film, Happy is now trying to keep up with the much younger golfers, because “all these guys hit it big now.” On the way, he grapples with his romance with Virginia, and gets support from his new caddie, who is played by Bad Bunny.

What This Means For Happy Gilmore

The Trailer Fills In Some Plot Gaps

The Happy Gilmore 2 trailer suggests that the film will make good use of its elapsed time. With the returning actors themselves significantly aged from the first film, the movie cannot pretend to pick up where things left off. Instead, the sequel is leaning into age as its major plot point. Gilmore has to find a new “Happy Place” that is more age-appropriate than when the character was first introduced. Returning to the game of golf, a generational divide becomes a larger issue.

The trailer also hints at how Happy Gilmore 2 will make use of its major stars. Stiller briefly reappears as Hal L. in the trailer, though it is unclear how much he will be featured in the movie. The Hal L. moment is coupled with a sH๏τ of Qualley in her Happy Gilmore 2 role, which is also left vague. Overall, the trailer revealed more about the plot of Happy Gilmore 2 while still leaving a lot of character storylines hidden.

Our Take On The Happy Gilmore 2 Trailer

Bad Bunny’s Role Is The Most Intriguing

Adam Sandler standing in Happy Gilmore 2

Sandler is in his full goofy form, taking on the lead role again in Happy Gilmore 2. While the trailer is still a teaser and does not give a full look into the ins and outs of the film, I am intrigued by Bad Bunny’s role in the movie. He has been shown in previous pH๏τos, but this trailer suggests that his caddie character will feature heavily in the sequel. He is a popular musician, so his appeal would be a smart move to help the film become intergenerational.
