Where To Watch Ash: Showtimes & Streaming Status

The feature film directorial debut of rapper/producer Flying Lotus, Ash, will land in theaters after making its debut at SXSW in 2025. The paranoid sci-fi horror-thriller starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul follows an astronaut who wakes up to find that she has no memory of herself or her circumstances, which includes a space station full of ᴅᴇᴀᴅ crew members. She encounters a man responding to a distress signal sent from her location who claims to know her, although impending dread and the terror of her situation leave her uncertain whether she should trust him.

The intense paranoia and atmospheric horror of deep space make it feel like a spiritual sequel of the Alien franchise, but the original movie from Flying Lotus certainly brings its own unique style to the space horror subgenre. Ash debuted to excellent scores on Rotten Tomatoes, and many critics have pointed out Eiza González’s performance in particular as a highlight of the movie. After its limited debut at SXSW, Ash will finally hit theaters across the country so that sci-fi and horror fans can enjoy the haunting visuals on the big screen.

Ash Releases In Theaters On March 21, 2025

The Sci-Fi Action Thriller Will Land In Most Major Theaters

Ash officially releases on Friday, March 21st, 2025 in most major theaters. While the space setting makes it seem like a good candidate for premium formats, Flying Lotus’ debut movie is not available in RPX, IMAX, or anything besides traditional 2D. While the official release date is March 21st, select theaters across the country have early access screenings on Monday, March 17th, so moviegoer reviews should trickle in ahead of its Friday debut.

Oscar-nominated writer and director Neill Blomkamp, famous for his memorable science fiction and video game work, is an executive producer on Ash.

When Will Ash Release On Streaming?

The Eiza González-Led Movie Will Stream On Shudder

Ash definitely seems like it warrants a theater experience if there are show times in your area, but it will be available to stream in the near future. While Amazon secured international distribution rights for Ash it is also attached to Shudder, which means that the movie should stream on the horror-specific platform in short order following its theatrical debut. While no specific date has been announced yet, the history of Shudder’s theater-to-streaming windows provides a general timeframe.

The Irish horror film Oddity released at SXSW in 2024, just as Ash did in 2025. Oddity did not get a wider theatrical release until July 19th, 2024, and like Ash it was somewhat limited in how many theaters it actually appeared in. Oddity began streaming on Shudder on September 27th, 2024, a bit more than two months after its theatrical release. Following that and other timelines from Shudder theatrical releases, we can expect Ash to hit the streaming platform sometime in May 2025.

When Will Ash Release On Digital?

It Won’t Be Long After Its Theatrical Release

The window between theatrical releases and digital releases is constantly shrinking, with many major movies available no more than two weeks after they hit theaters. Ash will be no exception, and once again based on past Shudder releases like Oddity, we anticipate Ash becoming available for digital rental and purchase at some point in April 2025. Given its limited release and lack of significant marketing, it seems unlikely that Ash‘s theatrical window will be extended, so those looking to see it on the big screen will likely have no more than a week or two to see it.
