Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World reaches another milestone as it leaves behind another three MCU solo movies at the domestic box office, but it still may not be enough for Sam Wilson’s Phase 5 movie to be considered a success. Captain America: Brave New World opened Marvel Studios’ 2025 live-action slate with a few key MCU events, including the announcement of adamantium and President Ross’ public transformation into Red Hulk. Despite its spectacular premise, however, Captain America: Brave New World has struggled to make significant progress at the box office, though it slowly crosses new landmarks one month after its theatrical release.
As of March 17, 2025, Captain America: Brave New World has earned $185,396,912 domestically (via Box Office Mojo), officially surpᴀssing Ant-Man‘s $180.2 million, Thor‘s $181 million, and Black Widow‘s $183.6 million. Internationally, Captain America: Brave New World‘s $203.2 million is still a long way from Thor‘s $268.2 million and Ant-Man‘s $339.1 million, however. Captain America: Brave New World‘s worldwide box office gross places it in the bottom fifth spot in the MCU’s rankings.
What Captain America: Brave New World’s Latest Box Office Update Means
Captain America: Brave New World Still Has A Few Other Landmarks To Reach
With enough momentum, Captain America: Brave New World could surpᴀss four other movies’ domestic box office. Captain America: Brave New World needs $47 million to reach Doctor Strange‘s $232.6 million domestic box office. By then, it will already have pᴀssed Thor: The Dark World, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. After Doctor Strange, Captain America: Brave New World will need another $27 million domestically to reach Captain America: The Winter Soldier and more than $52 million to reach Iron Man.
At $389 million worldwide, Captain America: Brave New World is on track to surpᴀss Eternals‘ $401 million. However, reaching Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ $432.2 million, Thor‘s $449.3 million, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s $476 million is looking increasingly harder, as Captain America: Brave New World‘s earnings continue to drop. At this point, reaching Ant-Man‘s $518.8 million anytime soon seems off the table.
Our Take On Captain America: Brave New World’s Latest Box Office Update
Captain America: Brave New World Further Emphasizes The Idea That Marvel’s Box Office Reign Is Weakening
Captain America: Brave New World is running out of steam at the box office. Despite not receiving the same amount of harsh criticism as Eternals, The Marvels, Secret Invasion, and She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Captain America: Brave New World remains at the fifth worst spot in the MCU’s box office rankings, and it holds the third worst spot in the MCU’s Rotten Tomatoes rankings (by critics’ score). Had Captain America: Brave New World been released in the Infinity Saga, it could have been received much better by critics and audiences alike, by momentum alone. Upcoming movies like Thunderbolts*, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Avengers: Doomsday aren’t destined to get similar results, but they’re certainly facing a big challenge, following up Captain America: Brave New World‘s poor performance.
