Casting Alexandra Daddario In James Gunn’s DCU – 10 Perfect DC Characters For The Percy Jackson Star

Alexandra Daddario is one of the most popular fancast stars for many roles in the new DC Universe, and the actress has the experience needed for some exciting DC heroes and villains. Daddario is no stranger to major franchises. The actress has been part of the Percy Jackson franchise, starring in two movies as Annabeth Chase, Athena’s daughter. The actress has also voiced Lois Lane in multiple animated DC films, establishing a connection that could lead to her appearing in the DCU’s Chapter One and beyond.

However, if that is to happen, Daddario will have to play a different character, as Rachel Brosnahan gives life to the DCU’s Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman. The actress has been a fan-favorite pick for major DC heroes and villains over the years, with Daddario even commenting on rumors of her superhero casting, which she labeled as exciting, long before the new DCU was created. Here are the 10 best DCU roles for Alexandra Daddario:

10

Wonder Woman

The Biggest Female Hero In The DC Universe

First up has to be the role Daddario has been one of the most popular picks for over the past couple of years. While Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman in the old DCEU, the character will be recast for the new DCU. Actresses like Ana de Armas, Adria Arjona, and Daddario have frequently been among the best picks for the role in fan discussions online, which is not something new for the latter.

Speaking to Collider in 2013, Daddario claimed she would love to be part of a Wonder Woman movie. The actress’ time as Annabeth in the Percy Jackson movies makes her an interesting choice for Diana Prince. Daddario could easily portray both the warrior, fierce side of the character, and Wonder Woman’s more compᴀssionate, vulnerable qualities well. After the DCEU did little with her Greek mythology connections, Daddario’s Percy Jackson experience would make her perfect to explore that side of Wonder Woman.

9

Zatanna

The DCU Has The Perfect Way To Introduce Zatanna

Another very popular choice for whom Daddario could play in the DCU is Zatanna. The actress looks exactly like the DC character. Adding to that, many of Daddario’s roles offer the same kind of charm and charisma the magic user is known for. Taking a character who has not appeared much in live-action and having a popular star like Daddario play her could help elevate Zatanna in the DCU.

Zatanna’s only live-action appearance so far was with actress Serinda Swan in Smallville.

Daddario’s roles in projects like Baywatch make it easy to see how well she could play Zatanna’s lighter, flirty, and fun side. That, paired with the character’s determined and confident persona, makes her a balanced player who can add a lot to the DCU. The franchise will have multiple teams, and Daddario could debut as Zatanna in the Swamp Thing movie, leading to the arrival of the Justice League Dark.

8

Poison Ivy

A Charming Villain Who Can Become An Anti-Hero

Poison Ivy is a different role from Wonder Woman and Zatanna, as she is the first villain on the list that Daddario could play. While the actress is often mentioned for hero roles in Gunn’s DCU, Daddario has the skills to flip the script and bring exciting villains to life. In We Summon the Darkness, she played Alexis Butler. The charming, manipulative character drugged a group of guys’ drinks after inviting them to play a game.

Having experience as a villain who uses her charm to lure others into her traps is perfect for Daddario’s chances of playing Poison Ivy. After all, that description is a perfect match for the DC villain. That said, Ivy is more than just a villain, having transitioned to anti-hero territory in the comics and animation. Daddario would be able to capture that nuance of the character, excelling as either a villain or anti-hero, depending on what the story calls for.

7

Huntress

A Rumored Role For Gunn’s DC Universe

For some time now, there have been rumors that Gunn could be developing a Korean movie focused on Huntress. The character was played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Birds of Prey. However, since that film performed badly at the box office, many of its characters will likely be recast if they show up in the DCU. At the moment, the Huntress DCU rumors have yet to be addressed by DC.

Perhaps Daddario could have better luck now with DC than she did at Marvel.

If the role is vacant, then Daddario would do a fine job as Helena Bertinelli. Interestingly, Daddario screen-tested for the role of Marvel’s Jessica Jones (via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline), as did Jessica De Gouw, who portrayed Huntress opposite Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen in Arrow. Both Jessica Jones and Helena Bertinelli are known for their hard exteriors, with a heart hidden under their tough skin. Perhaps Daddario could have better luck now with DC than she did at Marvel.

6

Big Barda

A Character Who Can Open The Door To A Whole New Side Of DC

DC had a New Gods movie in development for some time, though it ended up stuck in development hell, never materializing. One of the driving forces behind the project was DC Comics writer Tom King. As he is now one of the main creative minds of the DCU, and also a co-creator of the upcoming HBO Green Lantern series Lanterns, an adaptation of his popular Mister Miracle limited series could be perfect to explore the New Gods.

Mister Terrific’s wife and one of DC’s strongest female characters is Big Barda. As her name suggests, the character towers above others, able to dispatch armies by herself. Daddario’s experience voicing Lois Lane in DC’s animated Tomorrowverse shows she would be great for Big Barda. Both she and Lois are strong characters who make their partners better and are extremely efficient in their own areas.

5

Starfire

A Confirmed Hero For The New DC Universe

Starfire is a very interesting character from Gunn’s DC Universe. She is confirmed to be part of the franchise, as a deceased version of Starfire appeared alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more heroes in a vision of the future that would be stopped from becoming true by the тιтle team of Max’s Creature Commandos. A Teen тιтans movie written by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow scribe Ana Nogueira is also in the works.

There is a chance that Starfire will be older than some expect, as Damian Wayne will be the DCU’s Robin, so Dick Grayson, Starfire’s biggest love interest, should already be Nightwing in the DCU. That allows Daddario to play Starfire, with the actress being able to pᴀss through as someone in her early 30s. Daddario’s past roles show she could play either the aloof and innocent Starfire or the more confident Koriand’r, depending on what the DCU plans for her.

4

Catwoman

A Fitting Role That Plays To Daddario’s Strengths

The DCU’s Batman should be a little older than David Corenswet’s Superman, given how he will have a whole Bat-Family. As such, Bruce Wayne is likely in his late 30s, which is in Daddario’s age range, as the actress recently turned 39. Catwoman could play a large role in the franchise, appearing in the Batman corner as Bruce’s main love interest while also being a possible member of multiple teams.

TBD

One of them is the Gotham City Sirens that DCEU Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie wants to bring to life. Daddario would make Catwoman an exciting character to follow. She has experience with action projects and darker roles. Currently, Daddario stars in Mayfair Witches, where she plays a tortured character with a dark history. Selina Kyle thrives in the shadows, and Daddario would excel at that, having the skills to make Catwoman’s seductive and playful persona pop.

3

Donna Troy

An Alternative To Wonder Woman

If Daddario does not end up playing the DCU’s Wonder Woman, the role she has been often fancast for, the actress could play the most famous Wonder Girl. Donna Troy is a character who has some complicated comic book origins, but she is popularly considered Diana Prince’s sister. That means the DCU could cast its version of Donna as close to Wonder Woman’s age, and if Batman is possibly in his late 30s, so could Diana.

That opens the door for Daddario to play Donna Troy. The character could be part of the Teen тιтans movie as one of the team’s mentors. Donna, Dick Grayson, Wally West, and others were founding members of the Teen тιтans in DC Comics. If she played Donna like she did Percy Jackson‘s Annabeth, someone who can always be trusted, is smart, and empathetic, then Daddario would be perfect for the DC hero.

2

Black Canary

A Fan-Favorite Couple Can Thrive In The DCU

Black Canary has had a strong presence in live-action. Multiple versions of the character were brought to life in Stephen Amell’s Arrow. That showed different sides to the classic dynamic between Green Arrow and Black Canary. However, the DCEU never explored their potential, with Jurnee Smollet portraying Dinah in Birds of Prey. Daddario would be perfect to make Black Canary a veteran hero others look up to.

The actress’ age, 39, suits the character. Dinah is often seen as a voice of reason for other heroes, having even been a therapist for superheroes in the animated Young Justice. Many of Daddario’s past roles were compᴀssionate characters who were always happy to help others. Daddario can also portray the romantic link between Black Canary and Green Arrow well on the big screen, as she has quite a few rom-coms under her belt, including Can You Keep a Secret? opposite Superman & Lois‘ Tyler Hoechlin.

1

Superwoman

The Villain Version Of The DC Hero Alexandra Daddario Is Often Fancast As

The multiverse has become a popular storytelling device for live-action and animated superhero projects. As such, there is a chance that Gunn’s DCU will use it at some point. It would allow Daddario to play the villain version of Wonder Woman, the hero the actress once revealed she would love to play. Gunn has shown with Corenswet’s casting as Superman that he is looking at fancastings, as the actor had been the fan-favorite for the role for the past two years.

While there is a chance that Daddario could be older than what DC is looking at for its version of Wonder Woman, the actress could still play Wonder Woman with a twist. Superwoman is the evil Wonder Woman counterpart who hails from Earth-3 and is a member of the Crime Syndicate. Daddario’s experience with a couple of villain roles could be taken up a notch by playing Superwoman. The casting of the fan-favorite actress as the evil Wonder Woman could be a surprise reveal that leaves the audience conflicted once the nature of Alexandra Daddario‘s DCU character is revealed.

DC Universe

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
