Glen Powell To Star In Barry Jenkins’ First Movie After Mufasa: The Lion King

As Barry Jenkins plans out his next feature following the release of Mufasa: The Lion King, Glen Powell has signed on to star in his sci-fi movie The Natural Order. Jenkins’ 2024 Disney feature explored the origins of Mufasa, as he rises from an orphaned cub to the leader of the Pride Lands and his inevitable falling out with Scar. Alongside his work on Mufasa: The Lion King, Jenkins is a celebrated filmmaker, with both Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk winning numerous Academy Awards.

As reported by ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Powell has been cast in Jenkins’ adaptation of The Natural Order. Details on the movie’s premise are still under тιԍнт wraps, but the feature will be developed by Universal Pictures and Barnstorm Productions under Jenkins’ first-look agreement with the corporation. The Natural Order will be penned by Coco’s Matthew Aldrich, based on the manuscript of his upcoming novel, which centers on the efforts to achieve the miracle of eternal life.

What The Natural Order Means For Glenn Powell’s Future

The Actor Has Led A String Of Successful Movies

For Powell, his upcoming work with Jenkins is one of several highly anticipated projects that the actor is set to star in. Fresh off the successes of the past three years with Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You, Hit Man, and Twisters, Powell is currently set to star in Edgar Wright’s upcoming dystopian action thriller The Running Man. Based on the 1982 Stephen King novel of the same name, which sees desperate contestants forced to flee from mercenaries on a game show, Powell is playing the leading character Ben Richards and is currently filming the movie.

Before The Running Man, which is scheduled to be released in November 2025, Powell will also see his television series Chad Powers released on Hulu. Created and written by Powell and Michael Waldron, the series follows Powell’s quarterback, Russ Holliday, as he ᴀssumes the persona of Chad Powers to return to the world of football via a struggling team. As such, while 2025 is set to be a big year for Powell with his upcoming projects, his collaboration with Jenkins is certain to ensure he remains one of Hollywood’s biggest stars for the foreseeable future.
