This Novocaine Soundtrack Single Will Have You Feeling More Than Jack Quaid Can

Novocaine is a new action comedy starring Jack Quaid as Nathan Caine, a man who can’t feel pain, with an ensemble of talented stars including Ray Nicholson (Borderline), Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Amber Midthunder (Prey), and Matt Walsh (Veep). Written by Lars Jacobson and directed by Significant Other directors Dan Berk and Robert Olson, Novocaine sees Caine using his condition to essentially become an action star as he tries to save a woman he’s interested in. It’s a refreshing concept that has won over film critics in advance of the movie’s theatrical release.

The music of Novocaine carries audiences gleefully along for the ride, ScreenRant presents a selection from Novocaine – Music From the Motion Picture, which will be released the same day as the movie. The piece was composed by Lorne Balfe (The Wheel of Time season 3) and Andrew Kawczyński (Gran Turismo), who paired together to score the entire film. Check out “Ever After” from Balfe and Kawczyński, below:

“Ever After” Hints At The Heart Of Novocaine

It’s The Final Track Of The 16-Track Album

Novocaine trailers highlight the unique opportunities Nathan’s condition offers in terms of physical comedy. The fact that Nathan Caine can’t feel pain means that he can redirect anything unfortunate that comes his way–he gets stabbed in the hand, he uses that hand to push the knife into an ᴀssailant. “Ever After”, however, reveals the heart beneath Novocaine’s outlandish actions.

Nathan’s journey in Novocaine is kicked off due to the kidnapping of the girl of his dreams. As absurd as things quickly get–and as much as ScreenRant’s Novocaine review touts that insanity as a huge plus for the movie–it’s a love story at heart. Pieces like “Ever After” subtly remind the audience that even though Caine is unfeeling on the outside, he is driven by deep emotion throughout the events of the movie.

Don’t expect that “Ever After” is going to match the tone of the whole score, though. Balfe and Kawczyński worked to make sure that every exciting moment in the film was matched appropriately with usic, just as they did on past collaborations like Top Gun: Maverick (no composers are confirmed yet for Top Gun 3, but there is a chance they’ll return for that as well). The composers released a statement about their approach to Novocaine, hyping up its frenetic action moments:

Lorne Balfe & Andrew Kawczyński: Scoring Novocaine was a whirlwind. We set out to create a score as bold and unpredictable as the film itself. Bobby and Dan took an original IP and infused it with their distinct style, crafting something original and full of character. Our goal for the soundtrack was that it would not only rival the high-octane, adrenaline-fueled pace of the film but also heighten the emotional stakes, weaving in layers of tension and anxiety to grip the audience, and keep them teetering on the edge of their seats throughout the experience.

Novocaine hits theaters March 14, with Novocaine – Music From the Motion Picture dropping on digital platforms the same day. Purchase or stream the soundtrack here.
