“I’m Slytherin ‘Till I Die”: Harry Potter Star Reveals They Are Open To Returning For HBO Show

An original Harry Potter star is open to appearing in the HBO reboot series. The highly anticipated television series is expected to begin filming this summer. Several big names are in conversation to play major characters in the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s iconic book series, including Oscar nominee Janet McTeer, who is reportedly in negotiations to play Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Emmy nominee Paapa Essiedu, who might be closing the deal to play Professor Severus Snape. Meanwhile, John Lithgow has been confirmed to star in the Harry Potter show as Professor Albus Dumbledore.

While talking to Us Weekly, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who portrayed a young Tom Riddle in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, reveals that he’s open to joining the HBO reboot series. The star shares that he would love to play any character, though he can’t imagine himself as anyone other than a Slytherin. He also urges everyone to send a message to the studios and have them call him. Check out what he said below:

I would 100 percent be open to coming back as any character in the HBO Harry Potter series. Listen, tell them to [call me].

I don’t think I could be anyone else. I’m not just Team Tom Riddle, I’m Team Slytherin as well. So if it is anyone else, I think it’s gotta be Team Slytherin. I’ve picked my name out of the hat, and I’m Slytherin ‘till I die.

What This Means For HBO’s Harry Potter

Casting Original Stars Has Its Complications

Since the show was announced, countless Harry Potter cast members have been asked about whether they would appear in HBO’s reboot, and they’ve all given varied answers. For example, the original Boy Who Lived, Daniel Radcliffe, shared that he would not appear in the new series. The actor said it would be weird for him to reprise his role as an older Harry, and was very happy to pᴀss the torch to someone else. Others, such as Tom Felton, have indicated they’re open to returning.

HBO head Sarah Aubrey has addressed whether the creative team is open to casting actors from the original Harry Potter movies. She revealed that they are considering people who are likely to be committed to the franchise for a decade. With the new series, they want to immerse the audience in the world they build and not repeat the original movies, given that fans already ᴀssociate certain roles with certain characters. Because of that, it is unlikely that many movie actors will appear in the show, though that doesn’t entirely shut the door on the possibility.

Our Take On Hero Fiennes Tiffin Appearing On HBO’s Harry Potter

There’s Still A Chance For Fiennes Tiffin To Be In HBO’s Harry Potter

It doesn’t seem very likely that Fiennes Tiffin will reprise his role as Lord Voldemort. However, unlike Radcliffe, who is firmly ᴀssociated with the тιтular wizard, and Tiffin’s uncle, Ralph Fiennes, who’s known as the actor who played Lord Voldemort in four movies, Tiffin had a much smaller role. He only appeared in a single scene as the young Tom Riddle. Over the years, Tiffin has also grown up, which could open an opportunity for the star to be in the new series as a different character without being too distractingly similar to his old role.

Tiffin’s comment about how he’s firmly aligned with Slytherin House is also adorable. It’d be great for the television series to feature some familiar faces as new characters. After all, the Harry Potter franchise has one of the biggest fanbases, and the film series’ success contributed to the longevity of the entire property. It’d be a missed opportunity if the TV series featured none of the actors from the original movies’ cast.
