Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Reported Runtime Sets Horror Franchise Record

Final Destination: Bloodlines‘ runtime has been revealed, with the reported length suggesting that the upcoming sequel is set to be the longest in the franchise yet. The franchise makes a long-awaited return to the big screen after 14 years, with a new cast of characters set to be stalked and claimed by death after avoiding a brutal demise in a freak accident. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, Final Destination: Bloodlines‘ story will feature the final appearance of franchise veteran Tony Todd as ominous undertaker William Bludworth in one of the last roles he filmed.

The Irish Film Classification Office has now issued a new rating for Final Destination: Bloodlines, clarifying what audiences can expect from the franchise’s big-screen return. Alongside new disclaimers for nudity, strong language, and bloody violence, the movie’s page was updated with a new runtime on March 10. Final Destination: Bloodline will have a runtime of 109 minutes and 40 seconds, surpᴀssing the original 2000 movie’s 98 minutes as the longest entry in the series.

What A Longer Runtime Means For Final Destination: Bloodlines

The Movie Has A Heavy Task To Reach Modern Audiences

For the Final Destination franchise’s big-screen return, having the longest runtime feels like a positive sign for Final Destination: Bloodlines. With over a decade since the last installment was released on screen with Final Destination 5, an entry that was envisioned as a finale that would bring the series full circle, the movie is set to not reintroduce the franchise to existing fans, but a new generation of horror fans. As such, Final Destination: Bloodlines has to introduce its world and concepts to a new audience who may not have seen a past entry.

With this, a longer runtime will allow new audiences to become acclimated with its world and the bloody, Rube Goldberg-esque brutality that Final Destination‘s infamous death scenes are known for. A longer runtime could also perhaps offer existing fans a chance to be given something new to enjoy without having to compromise either building on what came before while creating a clear and concise entry point. As such, it seems Final Destination has been carefully constructed to reach a wide range of audiences.

Our Take On Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Runtime

The Movie’s Runtime Could Please All Audiences

Though recent years have seen many iconic horror franchises make a return to the big screen, there are still plenty of examples where a modern reboot has not been successful. The weight of a legacy sequel can be a lot for any filmmaker. Even though the surprise pitch that Lipovsky and Stein developed suggested that the pair had a clear understanding of the draw of the franchise’s brutal deaths, creating a movie that can strike a balance between impressing newcomers and longtime fans can be a difficult task. Nevertheless, Final Destination: Bloodlines‘ runtime and content warnings do suggest that the pair have done their best to please all viewers.
