Sentry’s Thunderbolts* Superhero Suit Reveal Makes His Dark MCU Story More Terrifying

Sentry has just received his most exciting Marvel Cinematic Universe update yet, but the hero’s revealed superhero suit makes an important story beat from Thunderbolts* more terrifying. So far, Marvel refuses to explicitly say that Lewis Pullman’s Bob is really Sentry. However, that has long been made clear, as The Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman previously revealed that Steven Yeun had fittings for the Sentry costume. Since Pullman replaced Yeun in the cast of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, it became evident that he was playing Sentry, who is called Robert Reynolds, aka the MCU’s Bob.

On that note, the trailers for Thunderbolts* have mostly featured Pullman as Bob. However, his superhero side was teased in some sH๏τs, with the IMAX trailer for the upcoming MCU movie showing a snippet of the Sentry suit. A dark twist for the character based on his Marvel Comics story was also made clear in the trailers, even though Thunderbolts* did not outright reveal Bob’s twist. Now, it seems like Sentry’s MCU suit has been revealed, and the first look at the hero’s superhero costume makes Thunderbolts*‘s dark story for Sentry more terrifying.

Sentry Looks Set To Have A Comics-Accurate Suit In Thunderbolts*

Marvel Movie Merch Has Seemingly Revealed His Costume Beforehand

While Marvel Studios has yet to fully debut Pullman’s Sentry costume from Thunderbolts*, it seems like the first look at the new MCU hero has come through an unexpected source. Sentry’s MCU design was seemingly revealed by a Funko listing. As can be seen on the Amazon pre-order page, Pullman’s Sentry is likely to sport a modernized version of the hero’s classic suit from the comics. Sentry’s Thunderbolts* suit seen in the merch has the same gold and blue color scheme from Marvel Comics with a different “S” belt and more lines added to the suit.

Sentry’s suit is not the only reveal that comes with the Funko listing. In the trailers for the MCU movie, Pullman’s Bob has brown hair. However, the Sentry Funko has him with the same blonde hair Sentry has in the comics. Back when Yeun was still set to play the secretive role in the MCU movie, it had been rumored that his hair would turn blonde when Bob transformed into Sentry, which could be what is in play here. There have been many instances of Funkos revealing heroes’ debuts and looks before MCU movies were released, just like with Thunderbolts*.

Sentry’s Suit And Powers Can Make Him Stand Out From Thunderbolts*’s Cast

The Marvel Character Is Very Different From The Rest Of The Team

If Sentry’s Thunderbolts* suit really looks like the Funko listing, then he will easily stand out from the cast of the movie in multiple ways. Sentry is one of the Marvel characters created as an answer to DC’s Superman. His invulnerability, power of flight, and the “S” in his costume are just some of the similar traits he shares with the Last Son of Krypton. By putting a character that looks similar to the most traditional superhero in the world in the middle of a team of anti-heroes, Marvel knows Sentry is going to stand out.

The gold and blue Sentry costume design is the only one amid the Thunderbolts to invoke a superhero look, with Red Guardian’s being the closest the team gets in that regard. Thunderbolts* is a darker MCU entry focused on characters who operate in gray areas. Sentry is a bona fide hero, not making much sense for the team of gritty characters. Aside from a few super-soldiers, the Thunderbolts* roster does not have anyone near Sentry’s power levels. That said, Sentry does have a dark story in the comics that will play out in the film, explaining how he fits Thunderbolts*.

Why Sentry’s Dark Turn Looks Like It Will Be Even More Terrifying After His Suit Reveal

Sentry Is Going To Be The MCU Movie’s Breakout Character

Sentry being the only traditional superhero among the Thunderbolts makes his story in the film more tragic and also terrifying for the team. That is because he will be revealed as the main threat the Thunderbolts face in the MCU movie. In Marvel Comics, Sentry has a dark side, the Void, which has been responsible for the death of millions. While Marvel has not commented on the Void’s inclusion, Thunderbolts*‘s Super Bowl trailer revealed the villainous side of the character is in the film, as a shadowy figure turns citizens into shadows on the pavement.

With the Sentry suit reveal from the Thunderbolts* merch and what has been shown of the Void in trailers, it is clear that the only real superhero of the team will be revealed as a villain in the film. That plot twist takes away the one thing that seemed certain for the audience, with Sentry’s immense power now making it so any Thunderbolts team member could die. As the best hero among them, his villain turn will leave the Thunderbolts* without a proper way to counter him, upping the stakes considerably for the MCU’s next movie.
