Now, Foton Distribution has released the trailer for The Uninvited. The trailer kicks off with a married couple, Rose and Sammy, getting ready for a party. During their preparations, an elderly woman, Helen, shows up at their doorstep and claims that this is her house. The party guests arrive as Helen stays on the premises, and it is clear that tensions run deep in multiple dynamics. Sammy and Rose struggle with communication in their relationship, while H๏τ-sH๏τ party guest Lucien (Pascal) might have a history with Rose.
What This Means For The Uninvited
The Uninvited Seems Heartfelt
While the film has comedic elements, given the initially humorous setup of someone showing up at one’s house claiming it to be their own, the trailer suggests that The Uninvited leans more heavily on drama than comedy. The main couple is initially perturbed by Helen’s uninvited arrival to their house; later, her presence causes Rose to think about her relationship with her own mother, who has pᴀssed away. Even throughout the trailer, it is evident how Rose and Sammy develop a growing compᴀssion for Helen, despite her disrupting their party.
The trailer boasts The Uninvited‘s strong early reviews as its main promotional tool. Though only seven critics have reviewed it so far, the film holds a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki gave the movie 7 out of 10 stars following its 2024 SXSW debut, noting, “Conners is a confident director, bringing together a story that is personal while touching upon issues women face as they age with grace and care.” These reviews could leverage a strong release for the independent film.
Our Take On The Uninvited Trailer
This Is Very Different From Goggins’ The White Lotus Role
As one of the many viewers currently watching Goggins in The White Lotus, it is fascinating to see him take on a more conventional dramatic role. The Uninvited will release at an interesting time, as it is coming right after The White Lotus season 3 wraps up and during the run of The Last of Us season 2, where Pascal stars as Joel. As such, audiences will go into the Conners dramedy with pretty immediate references to two of the movie’s key actors but see them playing starkly different roles.
