Sinners Box Office Tracking Gives WB Hope After Studio’s Year Of Pricey Gambles Started Rough

Early tracking reports indicate that Sinners could perform very well at the box office, which is good news for Warner Bros. after Mickey 17 underperformed in its opening weekend. The upcoming horror movie is written and directed by Ryan Coogler and follows two brothers who return home, hoping for a fresh start, but quickly learn of an evil that will prey upon them. Michael B. Jordan plays both Smoke and Stack in the 1930s-set vampire movie. In addition to Jordan, the cast includes Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Jayme Lawson, and Miles Caton.

According to a report from Puck, early box office tracking for Sinners has it scoring higher than Mickey 17 at this stage. On The Quorum, which focuses on pre-release tracking data, it currently has an Awareness score of 29 and an Interest score of 45, which is quite solid for a wholly original movie. These scores suggest that Coogler’s upcoming movie could be a hit at the box office when it releases in theaters on April 18, 2025.

What This Box Office Tracking Data Means For Sinners

Sinners Could Be A Box Office Hit

In recent years, original movies that are not based on established IP have been hit or miss at the box office. Even though Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan, one of the most sought-after actors in the world, and has a very interesting premise, it is not necessarily guaranteed to be a box office success. This box office tracking data is important to look at after Mickey 17 underperformed at the box office on its opening weekend. Bong Joon Ho’s movie made $19.1 million at the box office on a mᴀssive budget of $118 million.

Even though Sinners’ budget isn’t quite as high as Mickey 17’s, it still cost $90 million to make.

Recently, Warner Bros. has spent a lot of money on original movies from notable directors. In addition to Mickey 17 and the upcoming Sinners, the studio ensured that Paul Thomas Anderson and Maggie Gylenhaal’s upcoming films, One Battle After Another and The Bride, respectively, would have large budgets. Even though Sinners’ budget isn’t quite as high as Mickey 17’s, it still cost $90 million to make. Therefore, Warner Bros. wants the movie to perform very well at the box office, which is why this early tracking data is good news for the studio.

Our Take On This Box Office Tracking Data For Sinners

Hopefully, Sinners Is Profitable For Warner Bros.

Michael B Jordan's Elijah aims a tommy gun at the camera in Sinners 2025

Since Sinners’ release date is still over a month away, it is too early to predict how much it will make in its opening weekend. However, I am happy that this report indicates it will perform well at the box office. Coogler is one of the most talented directors working today, but he has not helmed a movie that is not part of a major franchise since 2015’s Fruitvale Station. Creed and his Black Panther movies are great, but I am excited to see an original movie from him. Therefore, I really hope Sinners performs well at the box office.
