Star-Lord Becomes The Young Avengers’ Mentor In Surprising Avengers: Doomsday Theory

A new MCU theory suggests that Peter Quill’s Star-Lord may surprisingly become the perfect mentor to the Young Avengers team in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Scheduled to be released in May 2026, Avengers: Doomsday is expected to mark the formation of more than one new Avengers team, coming together to battle Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. This has raised hopes that, alongside the new mainstream Avengers, Marvel will finally bring together the Young Avengers, but the young superhero team would also benefit from an experienced mentor in the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday has been billed to feature one of the MCU’s biggest casts yet, which means many of the major stars of Marvel’s past are expected to be returning. This includes the likes of Kamala Khan, Kate Bishop, Cᴀssie Lang, Billy Maximoff and more as members of the Young Avengers, while some of the MCU’s most exciting adult superheroes will also have key roles in the fight against Doctor Doom and the exploration of incursions. This includes Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, whose future role in the MCU is unclear after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Peter Quill Appearing In Avengers: Doomsday Makes Sense, But There Isn’t A Clear Role For Him

The Legendary Star-Lord Has Been Confirmed To Be Returning

The tag at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 confirmed that Chris Pratt would return to the MCU as the Legendary Star-Lord, but it wasn’t clear when this would happen. In February, Chris Pratt was asked on Jimmy Kimmel Live! whether he would appear in Avengers: Doomsday, however, and he stated that he “will make good on [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s] promise.” This all but confirms Peter Quill’s return in Avengers: Doomsday, though it’s uncertain what part he’ll play in the Russo brothers’ crossover spectacular.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with Peter Quill leaving the тιтular team and returning to Earth to reunite with his grandfather. It’s very unlikely that Star-Lord will rejoin the Guardians team, and he has few bonds with other heroes already residing on Earth, so his role in Avengers: Doomsday hasn’t yet become clear. Some have speculated that he would make a strong possible member of the MCU’s new Avengers team, but a new theory hints at an even more fruitful future for him as a mentor to Marvel Studios’ upcoming Young Avengers.

Star-Lord Could Be A Brilliant Mentor To The Young Avengers In The MCU

The Young Avengers Need A Mentor In Avengers: Doomsday

Although it might be unexpected, Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord would actually make a brilliant mentor to the Young Avengers team in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel Studios has already introduced several possible Young Avengers members, and Kamala Khan and Kate Bishop finally directly teased the formation of the team at the end of The Marvels. The Young Avengers are expected to form in Doomsday, and Peter Quill’s arc over the last decade in the MCU has seen him grow into a hero perfectly primed to take on a mentorship role for the next generation.

Peter Quill is seemingly retired after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so it’s possible he may avoid taking on the role of an active superhero himself. Marvel Studios may also avoid adapting a comic-accurate version of the Young Avengers’ formation, as its Kang the Conqueror variant Iron Lad who brings them together in Marvel Comics. Having Star-Lord help recruit and train the Young Avengers would be a fantastic new direction for the team, especially since his playful, slightly immature personality means he would have a fun and entertaining dynamic with the MCU’s young heroes.

Why Chris Pratt’s Inclusion Could Make The Young Avengers’ Formation Better

The Young Avengers Need An Injection Of Star-Power

Currently, introducing the Young Avengers team without a pre-established mentor from the MCU’s past may be a mistake, as the team could simply fly under the radar, especially for more casual viewers. Featuring Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord as a key part of the Young Avengers’ formation means the team could gain some serious star-power. Peter Quill is one of the most popular and charismatic members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, so he could breathe life into the Young Avengers and act as the glue for the team, just as he was for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

In Marvel Comics, it was Vision who acted as the mentor and recruiter for the first Young Avengers team. Recent speculation has suggested that Vision and Star-Lord could team up in Avengers: Doomsday, which may bring us one step closer to having Peter Quill reintroduced to the MCU as the Young Avengers’ mentor and benefactor. There are concerns that the Young Avengers’ formation may feel rushed in the action-packed Avengers: Doomsday, but having Star-Lord at the helm could soften this jarring storyline and make it far more palatable for audiences.
