“What Do You Want Me To Do, Some Of The Minor Characters?”: Hans Zimmer Confirms MCU Has Reached Out & Explains Why He Turned Them Down

Composer Hans Zimmer isn’t in a rush to score an MCU movie, as he has already scored the most famous superheroes of all time. Hans Zimmer is one of the most successful movie composers in Hollywood, having composed the scores of movies such as Gladiator, Inception, Interstellar, and The Lion King, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Score. Thanks to his work on superhero movies, Hans Zimmer is also synonymous with the genre alongside other composers such as Michael Giacchino, Danny Elfman, and Alan Silvestri.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Horowitz mentions he’s surprised Hans Zimmer has never scored an MCU movie. Zimmer confirms Marvel Studios has reached out, but says that “timing wasn’t great” and states that he isn’t planning on scoring more superhero movies anytime soon, as he has already scored some of the most famous superhero characters in movie history. Zimmer also reveals Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige himself has recognized Zimmer’s work in the superhero genre. Read Hans Zimmer’s full response below:

“They have! They have, they have. And it was always… timing wasn’t great. And really, quite honestly, I’m looking for other things. Look, I’ve done the trifecta. I’ve done Batman, Superman, Spider-Man… and Wonder Woman. So, I mean, what do you want me to do, some of the minor characters? Probably, yes. (laughs). That was very arrogant of me to say that, but actually, Kevin Feige said that to me. That’s what you’re complaining about!”

What Hans Zimmer’s MCU Comments Mean

X

Hans Zimmer has scored eight superhero movies: Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984, and Simon Kinberg’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Every movie Hans Zimmer has scored includes at least one standout theme. Zimmer created timeless pieces such as Batman’s main theme “Molossus,” Electro’s dubstep-inspired “The Electro Suite,” and the apocalyptic “Arcade” that accompanied Superman and Zod’s battle, for example.

Hans Zimmer’s musical style is known for its heavy percussion, resonant bᴀss, and epic scale, which is why his work suits larger-than-life characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man. Like Zimmer — and allegedly Kevin Feige — says, B-list Marvel characters wouldn’t suit Hans Zimmer’s prestige. Given that Zimmer says “timing wasn’t great” when Marvel approached him, it’s possible that Marvel considered him for A-list characters such as Doctor Strange, Thor, or the Avengers themselves.

Our Take On Hans Zimmer’s MCU Comments

X

There may be very few available characters for Hans Zimmer should he decide to score an MCU movie, as most major MCU characters already have well-defined themes. After the Multiverse Saga ends and the MCU’s first X-Men movie or show launches the new era of big-screen mutants, there will be many more available characters for Zimmer. Hans Zimmer could score the MCU’s X-Men movies or choose a specific character to develop their theme.
