A Quiet Place 3 Update Confirms Film’s Status As Producer Addresses Franchise Future

A Quiet Place 3 gets a new update as producer Brad Fuller reveals what is next for the A Quiet Place franchise. Directed by John Krasinski, the first installment in the horror franchise follows the Abbott family as they traverse a post-apocalyptic landscape overrun with aliens who hunt victims by sound. The 2018 movie was a hit, leading to the release of A Quiet Place Part II in 2021 and A Quiet Place: Day One in 2024. A Quiet Place Part III was confirmed to be in development in 2022, but few updates on the movie have arrived since.

In a recent interview with The Direct while in attendance at SXSW, Fuller comments on the status of A Quiet Place Part III, revealing that it’s still being worked on. The main holdup at the moment, he explains, is seemingly Krasinski’s busy schedule. Fuller also reveals that, though A Quiet Place Part III will be the final installment in a trilogy, more films in the franchise could still end up happening. Check out his comment below:

“So, ‘Day One’ is not ‘A Quiet Place 3,’ just to be clear… ‘A Quiet Place 3,’ we’re starting to put it together right now. You know, when we made the first one, John [Krasinski] didn’t have a lot on his plate. He had just come off ‘The Office,’ and he wanted to be a director.

“Now, he’s so in demand, and it’s hard to get him… He’s making a movie now, so as soon as he finishes that, hopefully, he will turn his attention to [‘A Quiet Place 3’]. We all want to finish that trilogy, and I’m hopeful there’s even more ‘Quiet Place’ movies beyond that.”

What Fuller’s Update Means For A Quiet Place 3

The Abbott Story Ends Here

It’s not clear what movie Krasinski is currently working on, but he is seemingly starring in and directing Silent River, an upcoming TV show. If he also has a movie in the works, it could be quite some time before he can turn his attention to A Quiet Place 3. It’s very unlikely that the film would move forward with a different director given Krasinski’s involvement in the first two movies, plus Blunt revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2023 that she wouldn’t be interested in making the movie with anyone else:

“I don’t want it to be with a different director if we did it again.”

Fuller’s comment also seemingly confirms that the Abbott family story will end with A Quiet Place 3. The A Quiet Place Part II ending does leave the door open for more story with Blunt’s character after a major step forward in the fight against the Death Angels, and the next movie can wrap that story up. Following the success of A Quiet Place: Day One, however, Fuller’s comment makes clear that there is still room for further franchise expansion, especially considering the three movies have grossed close to $900 million combined.

A Quiet Place: Day One is the lowest-grossing entry in the franchise at $261 million worldwide, but it was still a success due to its modest $67 million budget. The first and second films grossed $340 million and $297 million, respectively.

Our Take On A Quiet Place’s Future

Where The Franchise Could Go After Part III

Joseph Quinn looking worried in A Quiet Place Day One

All three movies in the A Quiet Place franchise have been successful critically and commercially, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the franchise further expand after the release of Part III. As for the next movie serving as the end of the story for the Abbott family, this is probably the right call, and they now have an opportunity to wrap this story up on a high note. Hopefully, Cillian Murphy also returns as Emmett after playing a crucial role in the A Quiet Place Part II cast.

After the upcoming trilogy-capper, it’s not clear where the franchise will go next. Another prequel could certainly work, chronicling the aliens’ arrival in new locations. Subsequent movies could also follow new characters years later, perhaps exploring what the post-apocalypse looks like in Europe and other parts of the world. For now, though, it looks like A Quiet Place 3 is the next franchise installment audiences can look forward to.
