Jason Statham’s $235 Million Action Comedy With 95% RT Score Becomes Streaming Hit A Decade Later

Jason Statham has fashioned himself as one of the most prominent action stars working today. Following his feature film debut in 1998 with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Statham has worked with notable action directors such as Guy Ritchie several times. He has also become the face of several franchises, including the Transporter movies, the Crank films, and as an ensemble member in The Expendables franchise. He has also acted as Deckard Shaw in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Statham’s films tend to do well at the box office. As a leading actor, his films have made over $1.9 billion collectively, and he tacks on over $4 billion if one counts his work as a lead ensemble member. Several of his highest-grossing films include Fast and Furious movies along with The Meg, which made $527 million. Later this month, Statham will star in A Working Man, where he will play a construction worker who helps seek justice when a local girl goes missing. Prior to this release, a Statham film from a decade ago is doing well on streaming.

Spy Is Doing Well On Streaming

Jason Statham Plays CIA Agent Rick Ford

Spy is doing well on the streaming charts 10 years later. The 2015 Paul Feig-directed action movie stars Melissa McCarthy as a CIA analyst who goes undercover to stop a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly arms dealer from enacting a global disaster. Statham plays macho CIA agent Rick Ford in the slapstick comedy, which also features Jude Law, Sam Richardson, and Rose Byrne. Spy received positive reviews, getting a 95% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also made a sizable profit, grossing $235.6 million against a $65 million budget.

A decade after it premiered in theaters, Spy is gaining popularity on the streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, the film came in no. 8 on the Peacock Top 10 Movies in the United States today, March 10. It fell behind The Wild Robot, Conclave, Nosferatu, Hitpig!, The Equalizer 2, Sing 2, and The Equalizer, but came in ahead of I’ll Be Right There and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

Our Take On Spy’s Streaming Success

This Is Good News For Statham

With a comedy icon like McCarthy at the fore and Statham in a key supporting role, Spy is a pretty appealing project to audiences. Its Peacock resurgence is especially good news for Statham, however, who is just under three weeks away from the release of his next action movie. If Spy cues further interest and awareness of Statham, this could be a good boost for A Working Man at the box office upon its March 28 release date.
