Even Though We Got 12 Symbiotes In The Venom Trilogy, I Desperately Need Marvel To Put Way, Way More On-Screen

The symbiotes are some of the most complex and interesting characters in Marvel Comics, and despite the Venom

trilogy introducing a dozen symbiotes, I need a lot more to come to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

. Let’s face it, the Sony Spider-Man Universe was deeply and inherently flawed. The films tried to achieve something new and exciting by focusing on Spidey villains and working towards a Sinister Six story, but the plots got muddled, alignments of characters were all over the place, and there was no Spider-Man.

Despite that, the SSU did produce some of the most entertaining and thrilling depictions of symbiotes to date. While the symbiotes have been in Marvel Comics, games, and animated shows for a long time, there was never a great adaptation of these complex alien creatures in live-action. And the Venom trilogy did a lot to bring in a wide variety of symbiotes, but they only just scratched the surface of what was possible.

The Venom Trilogy Introduced A Wide Range Of Symbiotes

The Symbiotes Make Venom’s Story So Much More Interesting

Thankfully, the Venom movies did not shy away from bringing in more symbiotes. They could have left it at Eddie Brock and Venom, and pitted them against a variety of rivals, but recognizing that the most interesting and complex rivalries would come from bringing in other symbiotes, the movies made a big effort to introduce others. From the first film, when Riot steps up to face Brock, and the pair have an intense battle, to the sequel, when the infamous Carnage sets out to fight the symbiote that gave it life, these movies did a lot with the symbiote storylines.

Then, in Venom: The Last Dance, things stepped up in a huge way, as several symbiotes appeared with some hailing from the comic book source material, and others appearing to offer something new and different. However, it also set up future stories with Knull, the creator and god of the symbiotes, before laying the entire SSU to rest. This just highlights how much more potential there is for these creatures, and hopefully, that is something that can be revisited in the future.

Venom: The Last Dance Introduced A Lot Of Symbiotes, But Didn’t Let Audiences Get To Really See Much About Them

The Symbiote Stories Are Only Just Scratching The Surface In The SSU

In fact, the introduction of so many symbiotes in Venom: The Last Dance just whets the appeтιтes for more symbiote stories. The third entry in the trilogy highlights many different symbiotes, collected by the Imperium Project, and for the bulk of the movie, these creatures remain contained in futuristic holding chambers. However, when they bind with hosts, the characters have very little time to connect with audiences, and explore their unique stories.

Despite this, it is evident that each symbiote has a story to tell, and these aliens have complex individual minds that go beyond their hive mind. All are connected to Knull, but each one has unique powers, abilities, and a voice. This proves that there are a wealth of stories to tap into that have been largely untouched, and even in the case of the symbiotes in The Last Dance, there is a lot more to dive into regarding each symbiote that appeared on-screen.

There Are Still So Many Marvel Symbiotes & Symbiote Stories The Franchise Needs To Adapt

The MCU Could Do A Lot With The Symbiotes

With the rights for Spider-Man and all of his ᴀssociated characters tied up at Sony, and the complex agreement between Sony and Marvel Studios, it seems unlikely that either side will introduce more movies and franchises where they have to collaborate beyond the main Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland. But, that being said, the symbiotes of the Marvel Universe are such an intriguing and rich part of the comics that it would be a shame to never make more films featuring them.

Whoever needs to make the project happen, there are still more stories to tell, including the one that was teed up in Venom: The Last Dance, before Sony axed the Marvel Universe they were building. Knull is at the heart of the symbiotes story, and despite a big marketing push highlighting his role in The Last Dance, he appeared only briefly. Beyond that, Venom has had several hosts in the comics, and there are more people for the character to join with and expand on his legacy. Whatever the case, there needs to be more symbiote stories, because the Venom trilogy just opened the door to what could be possible.
