This 20-year-old interview with Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader actor Hayden Christensen confirms just how incredible Darth Vader really is in Star Wars. Darth Vader is one of Star Wars’ best characters, and his suit is among the most iconic images in Star Wars movies and TV shows. When Christensen adopted the role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, the character was already legendary, given the original trilogy. Clearly, the immensity of that legacy wasn’t lost on Christensen, who had the most hilariously shocking description of donning the Vader suit.
In a 2005 interview on Rove Live, posted by Va.Va.Vera on TikTok, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader actor Hayden Christensen was asked whether he got to wear the Darth Vader suit in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Not only did Christensen confirm that it was him in the suit, but he also shared, “It was, you know, a thrill. I can’t really describe the sensation of being enclosed in Darth Vader. It was, uh… it was orgasmic, to say the least.”

While the description Christensen used to describe wearing the Darth Vader suit was absolutely hilarious (and took me by surprise), it’s easy to understand why something as iconic as the Darth Vader suit would have been so thrilling.
What The Darth Vader Suit Means In Star Wars
Christensen Isn’t The Only One Who Had Such A Strong Reaction To The Vader Suit
It’s difficult to put into words how significant Darth Vader’s suit is in Star Wars—although Hayden Christensen certainly did. From the very beginning of Star Wars, Vader’s suit was one of the most iconic symbols in the entire franchise, and it was absolutely terrifying. Star Wars has since played up just how scary Vader’s appearance really is, such as with the now famous Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hallway scene, one of Darth Vader’s most badᴀss scenes, in which Vader appears from the darkness, lit completely in red by his lightsaber.
Perhaps the best description of how scary Darth Vader’s suit is came from Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor. Although McGregor hadn’t seen Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith, he came face-to-face with him in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Even knowing it was Christensen in the suit and having worked on Star Wars for so long, McGregor shared that the first time he saw Vader, he was genuinely afraid.
Our Take On Hayden Christensen’s Description Of Wearing The Vader Suit
Seeing How Much Christensen Appreciates This Role Has Always Been Wonderful
Silly as the interview clip might seem, Hayden Christensen has never been shy about how much he adores this character and how much it meant to him to get to play him (and continue to play him). Even decades later, Christensen always expresses appreciation for the opportunity, which is particularly incredible given the backlash he faced after the prequels. It’s easy to take it for granted, but the love Christensen has for this franchise and this character isn’t a guarantee or perhaps even common with actors, and it makes Star Wars so much better.
It’s also been wonderful to see Christensen come back to the role several times now. As mentioned, he wore the Vader suit once again in Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he got to come back as Clone Wars-era Anakin and as Darth Vader in the Ahsoka show. Christensen also seems primed to return to Star Wars at least once more, which means even more opportunity to see Christensen in the Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader role as well as another chance for Christensen to don this evidently orgasmic suit.
