“It Looks Very Different”: 2015 Fantastic Four Star Kate Mara Addresses Marvel’s New Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie And How She Feels About The Cast

Kate Mara, who played Sue Storm in the 2015 Fantastic Four movie, reacts to The Fantastic Four: First Steps as the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets ready to introduce the iconic family. After years of waiting to see them in the MCU, the Fantastic Four characters will be kicking off Phase 6 with the team-up reboot film arriving in theaters this summer. However, even before The Fantastic Four: First Steps releases, the film is already receiving support from the last group of actors who portrayed the characters.

At this year’s SXSW, ScreenRant’s own Liam Crowley spoke with The Astronaut cast members Kate Mara and Gabriel Luna, where The Fantastic Four: First Steps was also briefly addressed. After having played the Invisible Woman more than a decade ago, Mara gave her reaction to the new reboot as she stated the following about The Fantastic Four: First Steps:

Kate Mara: I did see the trailer. The cast is so great. I love all of those actors, so I’m excited to see it. It looks very different.

Gabriel Luna (who plays Pedro Pascal’s brother’s character in The Last of Us): My brother played Mr. Fantastic!

What Kate Mara’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps Comments Mean For The MCU Reboot

Even though she only played Sue for one movie, Mara is an important part of 2015’s Fantastic Four, which is still part of the team’s cinematic legacy, despite the film’s negative reception. While Fantastic Four has become known as one of the worst comic book adaptations of all time, the cast was hardly the problem with the film. Despite having a short run with Invisible Woman in the 2015 installment, to hear Mara still be open to talking about Fantastic Four a decade later is appreciated.

Mara’s reaction is also very similar to what former Reed Richards actor, Miles Teller, had to say when he was asked about The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In a February interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Teller said, “I saw the little trailer and I thought it looked fantastic, I’m very excited for them.” His comment shows that even if his film didn’t turn out the way he’d hoped, he is still thrilled to see the Fantastic Four characters getting a fresh start in something like the MCU. It’s always fun to hear actors like Mara and Teller show their support for a new take on characters they’ve played.

Our Take On Kate Mara’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps Comments

The Fantastic Four look up to a beam of light heading into the sky

Following Mara’s supportive comments about The Fantastic Four: First Steps, time will tell if fellow Fantastic Four actors Michael B. Jordan (who is in the MCU as Killmonger) and Jamie Bell have similar thoughts about the first trailer. Despite their characters not getting a chance to continue, it would be fun if The Multiverse Saga could have some type of crossover where the 2015 cast gets a proper chance with their versions of the Marvel icons. But until then, the world can look forward to The Fantastic Four: First Steps when it arrives in theaters this summer.

The Astronaut is set to have its SXSW premiere on March 7.
