Millie Bobby Brown’s Netflix Sci-Fi Movie Debuts With Career Low Rotten Tomatoes Score

Millie Bobby Brown is easily one of the biggest young stars in Hollywood today. Although she started her career as a child actor, with small roles on NCIS and Modern Family, Stranger Things was the breakthrough series that put her on the map. In the megahit Netflix series, Brown portrayed the telekinetic protagonist, Eleven, who becomes the Hawkins’ main defense in fending off the Upside Down. She will portray her iconic role one last time in Stranger Things season 5, which is set to arrive sometime this year.

Although Brown’s tenure as Eleven is coming to an end, the actor has been keeping herself busy in the movie sphere, including the Monsterverse franchise, where she portrayed Madison Russell. She has also continued her partnership with Netflix beyond Stranger Things, leading the way as Enola Holmes in the тιтular movie and its sequel, with a third one on the way. Her latest film, Damsel, became one of the most-viewed movies on Netflix at no. 8. Brown is now collaborating on another project with the stramer, but unfortunately, the first reviews are less than impressive.

The Electric State Is Failing To Impress Critics Despite Its Star-Studded Cast

It’s Unfortunately Another Netflix Dud

Reviews are starting to drop for Brown’s new movie, The Electric State, but it’s already been a bumpy start. Brown portrays a young teenage girl named Michelle, who is searching for her brother throughout the ravaged part of the western United States. Guiding her along the way are a robot and a drifter, Keats (Chris Pratt). The upcoming sci-fi adventure movie is based on the 2018 book of the same name by Simon Stålenhag. With the Russo Bros helming as directors, The Electric State‘s stacked cast also includes Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Giancarlo Esposito. The movie will be released on Netflix on March 14.

Unfortunately, The Electric State currently has a 21% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 19 reviews. While the score will likely fluctuate as more reviews get tabulated, this currently marks the lowest-rated movie in Brown’s whole career, a record that was once held by 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters with 43%. This is also her second-straight designated-rotten movie after Damsel.

Our Take On The Rotten Tomatoes Score For The Electric State

These Reviews Are Not Surprising

I’m not too surprised that the reviews have been negative since Netflix has quite an inconsistent track record with movies. However, the most baffling part is that the streamer invested a reported $320 million budget on The Electric State, which is how much it costs to make blockbuster movies in franchises, and even that is not always guaranteed. However, I imagine most of that budget went to the visuals, which seem to be the movie’s most redeeming aspect.

At the end of the day, the reception that matters the most is the audience who gets to see the movie, and they typically respond better to Netflix movies. I will also be giving The Electric State a chance, although I may have to re-evaluate my expectations.
