Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights Casts Young Versions Of Jacob Elordi & Margot Robbie’s Roles, Including A Netflix Show’s Breakout Star

Wuthering Heights has officially cast its actors to play young versions of its stars. An adaptation of the Emily Brontë novel of the same name, Wuthering Heights is the third directorial feature film from Emerald Fennell, whose previous work includes Saltburn and Promising Young Woman. She will continue her collaboration with Jacob Elordi, who played Felix in Saltburn. The director will work with Margot Robbie as an actor for the first time, after the Oscar nominee previously served as a producer on her films. Other actors include The Whale‘s Hong Chau, Star Trek: Discovery’s Shazad Latif, and Saltburn‘s Alison Oliver.

Per Variety, more actors have been cast in Wuthering Heights. This includes Owen Cooper and Charlotte Mellington, who will play younger versions of Heathcliff (Elordi) and Cathy (Robbie), respectively. The update also announced the casting of Vy Nguyen as the younger version of Nelly Dean, whose adult counterpart is portrayed by Chau.

Cooper is the most immediately recognizable actor among the trio, as he previously made his debut performance in the Netflix series Adolescence. There, he showed off his dramatic chops by playing Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering one of his classmates. Wuthering Heights will be a great chance for the young actor to further grow his career, and, if successful, this step into cinema could be a major turning point in his career.

As for the other two young performers, Mellington is a star of the stage, recently playing Lavender in the West End production of Matilda: The Musical. Nguyen is an unknown who will be making her on-screen debut in Wuthering Heights. The level at which each of these young actors will be featured in the Fennell movie has yet to be revealed, but they will nonetheless play three of the novel’s key characters at formative moments during their lives. Playing the younger versions of such major stars will be an exciting challenge for the young stars.

This Is An Exciting Opportunity For Fennell’s Work

With the exception of Nguyen, who is a new star, Wuthering Heights seems intent on casting up-and-coming British talent for their film. Fennell’s films mostly involve adult actors, so working with a set of younger teenage stars will be relatively new ground for the director. As such, it will be an exciting turn to see these newer stars break out, and see what kind of performances a great director like Fennell is able to evoke from them.
