The fantasy movie is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and is based on a short story by acclaimed author George R.R. Martin. The film follows a witch named Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), who hires a guide named Boyce (Bautista) to travel with her into the dangerous Lost Lands to retrieve a power. Speaking with ScreenRant‘s own Tessa Smith, Bautista discussed how excited he was for his character to turn into a werewolf in In the Lost Lands. He stated that turning into a werewolf was the main reason he wanted to star in the movie, and explained how the ending was filmed. The actor revealed that he didn’t have to wear any makeup for his werewolf role and that the transformation was fully CGI. Read Bautista’s full comments below:
It’s all CGI. We didn’t do anything with makeup. They just had me do my thing and they wanted to see how I would do it. And I did it how I thought somebody would turn into a werewolf and started tweaking a little and changing my voice a little and started grunting and then kind of howling a little bit.
It was nothing but fun. This is why I’m in this business. This is what I love. This is why I wanted to play this character because I couldn’t wait to turn into a werewolf. This is the fanboy in me. These little moments, I live for. I loved it. I loved every second of it.
What Bautista’s Comments Mean For In The Lost Lands
In The Lost Lands Builds Up To Boyce’s Werewolf Transformation
In In the Lost Lands, Jovovich’s Gray Alys is a witch who grants wishes. At the beginning of the film, the queen of the last functioning city in the world tasks her with giving her the power to transform into a wolf. To grant this wish, Gray Alys must journey into the Lost Lands and take the power from a shapeshifter. Ironically, she hires Boyce to be her guide since he is actually a shapeshifter in In the Lost Lands. Therefore, Boyce turning into a werewolf at the end of the movie is a plot twist.
Even though Bautista is extremely excited about seeing his character turn into a werewolf, In the Lost Lands has not impressed many other people. Reviews for In the Lost Lands were terrible, and ScreenRant‘s own Alexander Harrison awarded it a score of 2 out of 10. This negative score is not necessarily surprising since Jovovich and Anderson’s collaborations tend to garner poor reviews. Before In the Lost Lands, the married couple also collaborated on the 2020 movie Monster Hunter and the Resident Evil film series.

Bautista Is The Best Part Of In The Lost Lands
Even though In the Lost Lands is receiving negative reviews, it is nice to hear that Bautista is excited about the project. After all, ScreenRant‘s review does note that Bautista is potentially the movie’s only redeeming aspect. The wrestler-turned-actor has proven himself to be a talented individual, so it is great that he gave his all to the project. Therefore, despite the negative reviews, I am glad that he enjoyed making In the Lost Lands.
