Gunslingers Trailer: Nicolas Cage Is A Bizarre Cowboy In A Wild West Search For America’s Most Wanted Man

The latest trailer has been revealed for Gunslingers. The upcoming Western is set in a town literally named Redemption and features Nicolas Cage as a genius named Ben who is guided by a spiritual leader named Jericho. Along the way, Ben’s peaceful life will be challenged by violence and revenge. The film also features Heather Graham, Stephen Dorff, Scarlett Rose Stallone, and Tzi Ma. It was written and directed by Brian Skiba.

Now, Lionsgate has released the trailer for Gunslingers. The scene begins in a saloon, where it is established that, at least as the rumor has it, everyone living in Redemption is wanted for a crime. Several people are on the hunt for a man named Thomas Keller, who is wanted for murder. As more people chase after Thomas, Cage’s Ben says, “praise the lord.” The trailer then shows a series of fights between gunslingers as Ben attempts to protect his town against outsiders.

What This Means For Gunslingers

Cage Is Putting On A Funny Voice For The Part

Cage is known for his eclectic roles, and it looks like Ben is one such part. The actor has very few lines in the Gunslingers trailer, but from his first brooding glance, the actor is shown in an over-the-top outfit and sporting a dumbfounded expression. After his first line, it becomes clear that Cage’s acting methodology for this role will involve a distinct vocal performance, putting on an exaggerated Southern accent and inflecting a gravely, airy quality in his voice.

Beyond Cage’s almost parody-like cowboy role, Gunslingers generally seems to be drawing upon classic Wild West stereotypes. Remarkably, this isn’t the actor’s first go around in the Western genre, having previously appeared in the 2023 movie The Old Way. Cage also portrayed a gunslinger, Colton Briggs, whose past comes to haunt him and his family. However, the dramatic role is in contrast with his new character, who is far more eccentric and borderline comical.

Our Take On The Gunslingers Trailer

This Is A Fittingly Odd Role For Cage

Nicolas Cage as Dracula bearing his teeth in Renfield

I think Gunslingers looks like a Renfield-type beat. The movie does not seem like it is a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece, but it does feature a performance from Cage that is so off-the-wall and bound to be memorable. He has been on a relatively positive career streak recently, and while I am not necessarily hopeful about this movie falling on the fresh side of a Rotten Tomatoes score, I do think it could capture the actor’s true goofball, peculiar experience.
