Captain America: Brave New World’s Box Office Officially Pᴀsses The MCU’s Second Biggest Bomb’s Entire Gross In Just 2 Weeks

Having already surpᴀssed The Marvels, Captain America: Brave New World outperforms the MCU’s second-biggest box office bomb. Captain America: Brave New World‘s $180 million budget made Sam Wilson’s first Captain America movie a much less risky bet than previous Marvel offerings like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Eternals. Captain America: Brave New World‘s reviews have earned the Phase 5 movie lower ratings than all three previous installments in Steve Rogers’ Captain America trilogy, but that hasn’t kept it from performing quite well at the box office, at least compared to other releases in the MCU’s Phases 4 and 5.

As of March 4th, 2025, Captain America: Brave New World has reached $341.9 million worldwide, surpᴀssing The Incredible Hulk‘s $264.7 million (via Box Office Mojo). Captain America: Brave New World beat The Incredible Hulk on all counts, with higher domestic and international openings, and a higher domestic and international total gross. Captain America: Brave New World is currently on track to surpᴀss Captain America: The First Avenger‘s $370.5 million worldwide gross very soon.

What Captain America: Brave New World’s Week 2 Box Office Update Means

Captain America: Brave New World Likely Won’t Land In The MCU’s Top 10 Highest-Grossing Movies, But It Certainly Won’t Be A Flop

Apart from pᴀssing The Marvels and The Incredible Hulk, Captain America: Brave New World‘s $341.9 million gross suggests the MCU’s fourth Captain America movie is close to breaking even. This alone puts Captain America: Brave New World ahead of movies with higher budgets at the two-week mark. At this rate, Captain America: Brave New World can keep climbing the MCU’s rankings and surpᴀss Captain America: The First Avenger‘s $370.5 million, Black Widow‘s $379.7 million, Eternals‘ $401.7 million, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ $432.2 million, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s $463.6 million.

The rankings between Ant-Man‘s $518.8 million (the closest MCU movie to $500 million) and Captain Marvel‘s $1.129 billion (the closest MCU movie to $1 billion) are the longest stretch, with thirteen MCU movies in between. Looking at the bigger picture, Captain America: Brave New World performed similarly to The Incredible Hulk and Eternals — the two MCU films its plot revisited. But while Captain America: Brave New World likely won’t get too far in the $500 million to $1 billion box office range, leaving behind The Incredible Hulk and Eternals is already a feat.

Our Take On Captain America: Brave New World’s Week 2 Box Office Update

Captain America: Brave New World Is Slowly Distancing Itself From Failure Territory

Captain America: Brave New World has many comparisons to deal with: the MCU’s three previous Captain America movies, the rest of Phase 5, the rest of the Multiverse Saga, The Incredible Hulk, and Eternals, for example. Although Captain America: Brave New World is far from a unanimous success like 2024’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, Sam Wilson’s first solo movie is making progress at a steady pace at the box office. Soon, Captain America: Brave New World will surpᴀss both Captain America: The First Avenger and Eternals, and Thunderbolts*‘ box office will provide a clearer point of reference for its performance.
