Anaconda
reboot star Selton Mello shares a new image with Paul Rudd and Jack Black confirming that filming has wrapped on the upcoming film. Released in 1997, the original Anaconda from director Luis Llosa starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, and Jon Voight, and has become something of a cult classic in the years since its release. Now, Sony is making an Anaconda reboot with director Tom Gormican at the helm, and it’s set to feature Black, Rudd, Mello, Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior, and Thandiwe Newton, with a release set for Christmas 2025.
Mello now takes to Instagram to share a new post celebrating the Anaconda reboot’s filming wrap in Queensland, Australia. The actor’s post includes an image of him posing with Rudd and Black on the back of a boat alongside a heartfelt caption. Check out the post below:

“The end of filming,” Mello writes in his caption, “an unforgettable experience.” He calls Rudd and Black “two amazing people” before clarifying the upcoming film is neither a remake nor a sequel. He also writes that Newton, Zahn, and Melchior are now “new friends,” and then thanks the film’s entire cast and crew.
What Mello’s Update Means For The Anaconda Reboot
When A Trailer Could Arrive
There are still 10 months to go before the Anaconda reboot hits theaters, but the movie is evidently now one step closer to coming to fruition. Hollywood movie marketing doesn’t usually kick into gear until five or six months away from release, so a trailer probably won’t arrive until July or August. With filming having now wrapped and the film entering post-production, however, it’s possible that an image or logo will make its way online over the next few weeks.
Since the upcoming film isn’t a remake, as was initially thought, none of the actors will be playing the characters the original Anaconda cast members played. It remains unclear who Black, Rudd, and Mello will be playing, or what the dynamic between their characters will look like, but a previous video from the set did feature Rudd wearing scrubs. It has also been made clear that the upcoming Anaconda movie will be more of a comedy than the original, which was more of a horror and adventure film.
The original Anaconda has only a 41% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was a box office success, grossing $136 million worldwide.
Our Take On The Anaconda Reboot’s Filming Update
Will The Reboot Succeed With Audiences?
Rudd and Black have been very active on social media when it comes to the Anaconda reboot, and it’s clear the film’s promotional strategies are branching beyond more traditional trailers and images at this early stage. Rudd and Black, for example, joined each other for a song announcing the movie’s cast members in early February. This could be a sign of what’s to come, with social media and behind-the-scenes posts and videos potentially playing a large role in keeping the movie top of mind for fans.
The social media posts so far, save for Mello’s more sincere post, all speak to the movie’s more comedic tone, and it will be interesting to see whether audiences embrace this. Over the past decade, comedy has been a genre that has struggled in theaters, but the addition of a man-eating snake in the case of the Anaconda reboot could certainly be enough to entice viewers.
