I’m now even more excited about the DCU’s upcoming Batman spin-off movie now that we know who’s writing the script. While The Brave and the Bold is currently in development as a live-action Batman movie starring a new Dark Knight and Damian Wayne’s Robin, DC Studios also has Dynamic Duo in the works as well. An animated feature starring two of Batman’s other Robin, this upcoming movie has the right ingredients to be something very special.

DC Studios recently had a “catch-up” day with the press, sharing new updates about ongoing projects and announcing some new DCU projects as well. However, one of the most exciting was regarding Dynamic Duo with the confirmation of the movie’s writer and whether it would be in the main DCU timeline. As such, Dynamic Duo has definitely jumped up the list of my most anticipated DC movies.

Dynamic Duo Is One Of The Most Exciting & Unique Upcoming Movies In The DC Universe’s Roster

An Animated Feature With Puppetry

First announced back in October 2024, Dynamic Duo will be a coming-of-age story starring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Grayson and Todd were Batman’s first and second Robins, who grew up to become adult vigilantes Nightwing and Red Hood respectively. Seeing as how the fourth Robin Damian Wayne is set to debut in live-action with Brave and the Bold, it’s likely that Dynamic Duo will serve as a prequel story, ᴀssuming the movie is indeed set in the main DCU proper.

Dynamic Duo is being animated by Swaybox Studios, which specializes in puppetry mixed with impressive facial animation technology, resulting in a truly unique and captivating animation style. While it was originally believed to be part of the main DCU timeline, DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran claimed at the recent press event that they’re not yet sure whether the story will fit the DCU or will simply be an exciting Elseworlds story. Either way, they did confirm the film is officially in pre-production, and writer Matthew Aldrich is still attached to the movie’s script (which is very exciting).

Matthew Aldrich Also Wrote Disney & Pixar’s Coco

Matthew Aldrich is best known for penning the original story for Disney and Pixar’s Coco, the 2017 animated movie which earned $814 million and won multiple awards, including the Oscars Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song in 2018. Having equal amounts of action, humor, and genuine heart, Coco has a wonderful story filled with some impressive levels of depth. Keeping that in mind, I’m incredibly excited to see what Aldrich brings to the table for Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as Dynamic Duo nears its official production.
