The redesigned appearance of the velociraptors in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth have been revealed. This seventh installment in the action-packed dinosaur franchise serves as a soft reboot and sequel to Jurᴀssic World Dominion (2022). Directed by Gareth Edwards, known for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the film centers on a covert mission to the original Jurᴀssic Park research facility—where a team aims to retrieve dinosaur DNA crucial for a life-saving drug. The ensemble cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is set to release in theaters on July 2, 2025.

As seen on a foil mylar balloon advertised by LA Balloons (below), the new design depicts a more intimidating predator, featuring defined ridges on its skull, pronounced facial markings, bright coloration, beadier eyes, and quills adorning the back of its head and neck.
What Rebirth’s New Velociraptor Design Means
A New Look For A New Era
The Velociraptors have undergone multiple design changes throughout the Jurᴀssic franchise. In Jurᴀssic Park, the raptors were dull in color, slender, and had cat-like eyes, while The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park introduced tiger-like stripes and amphibian-inspired eyes. Jurᴀssic Park III added broader skull structures, and male raptors featured dark purple hides with red eyes, while the matriarch had a striking snow-white color with yellow eyes. Chris Pratt’s Jurᴀssic World trilogy then revamped the raptors with beefier builds and vibrant green and blue hides, best exemplified by Blue.
The introduction of Blue’s pack in Jurᴀssic World marked a turning point for the series, as it was the first time raptors were shown forming a bond with a human. Pratt’s Owen Grady was able to connect with Blue, and she often came to his aid. By making the raptors more menacing, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is returning to this classic depiction of them as terrifying apex predators. Their updated design suggests they will be more independent and feral, restoring their place as some of the most dangerous creatures in the park.
Our Take On Rebirth’s New Velociraptor Design
A Franchise Return To Terror
Bringing the Velociraptors back to their terrifying roots is a great move for Jurᴀssic World Rebirth following the negative critical and audience reception of the Jurᴀssic World trilogy. By returning the dinosaurs to their original horror-thriller essence, the upcoming film aims to restore the sense of fear and danger that defined Steven Spielberg’s original film. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth could be the revitalization the series needs, making dinosaurs a horrifying menace to face once again.
