What The New Trailer Means For A Minecraft Movie
Prepare For Plenty Of Minecraft Easter Eggs
The initial response to A Minecraft Movie‘s marketing was not overly positive on social media, but things seemed to have softened somewhat in recent weeks. It’s not clear how this new trailer will be received, but it certainly affirms that those who played the video game will have plenty of Easter eggs and references to enjoy. After the previous trailer showed off a sequence with an Ender Pearl, the new trailer features a Chicken Jockey and Elytra Wings, the latter of which is one of the rarest items in the game.
This latest trailer also provides the best look yet at Jennifer Coolidge’s character, who gets in a minor car accident at the very end of the footage. It’s not yet clear who exactly Coolidge is playing in the film, but her previous roles, including The White Lotus, suggest she could end up being a major source of comic relief. Though not playing live-action characters, Matt Berry, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement will also feature in A Minecraft Movie‘s cast.
Our Take On The New Minecraft Movie Trailer
The Video Game Adaptation Could Be A Hit
Though recent video game adaptations have found success, with Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie being the most notable example, it’s unclear if A Minecraft Movie will be a hit with audiences. The movie features a tone and style that could prove divisive, and there have been complaints that Black’s take on Steve isn’t very different from his broader comedic persona.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which features Black as the voice of Bowser, grossed a staggering $1.360 billion worldwide.
Minecraft, however, remains one of the most popular and beloved video games out there, and the source material alone could be enough to get people into theaters. At the very least, A Minecraft Movie features plenty of star power, and it looks like it will have game players constantly on the lookout for Easter eggs and fun references.
