Beloved Nicholas Sparks Book With $47M Adaptation Getting A Reboot With Original Producers

Nicholas Sparks‘ 1999 novel adaptation is set for a reboot with the same production team involved. Sparks is one of the most successful novelists of all time, having sold 115 million copies of his novels. He first rose to prominence with his debut novel The Notebook, which was adapted into a 2004 box office sleeper hit, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. To date, 11 of Sparks’ novels have been adapted into movies, including The Last Song, Dear John, and Message in a Bottle.

Sparks has also worked in a creative capacity on several of his film adaptations, penning the screenplay for The Last Song and serving as producer on Safe Haven, The Longest Ride, The Best of Me, and The Choice. To date, Sparks’ romance movie adaptations have grossed a total of $889.6 million. Now, there is one prominent adaptation from 2002 that has developed something of a cult following over the years and will undergo the reboot treatment.

A Walk To Remember Is Getting Rebooted

The Same Production Team Is In Talks Over The Project

Sparks’ popular 1999 novel A Walk to Remember, adapted into a 2002 coming-of-age romantic drama starring Mandy Moore and Shane West, is getting a reboot with the original producers on board. The first movie had a modest theatrical run, grossing over $47 million against a production budget of $11 million. However, the movie went on to develop a popular following and is seen as one of the seminal modern tearjerkers. A Walk to Remember has some seminal quotes and plenty of romantic tension between the leads.

A Walk to Remember follows a rebellious teenager who falls for the quiet school outcast when he is forced to participate in his school play. Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, the movie is set for a reboot with producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry, who produced the original. Joining them to make up the production team are Steve Barnett, Alan Powell, and Vicky Patel at Monarch Media. Margaret French-Isaac joins Di Novi producing for Di Novi Pictures, while Patty Reed joins Lowry producing for Roserock Films. Barnett said in a statement:

‘A Walk to Remember’ has endured as a beloved coming-of-age drama, captivating audiences with its heartfelt story of young love, personal growth and the power of faith for decades. We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks’ timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film’s producers, Denise and Hunt.

Di Novi added:

I am so grateful to Steve and Monarch Media for giving all of us the opportunity to bring this enduring and inspirational story of faith, hope and love to a new generation, all qualities we need now more than ever.

Finally, Lowry shared this statement:

I’m delighted to be bringing this timeless story to a new generation of moviegoers, and it’s great to be working with Denise again and the Monarch team.

Our Take On A Walk To Remember Reboot

This Reboot Could Enjoy More Success Than The Original

The time could be right for rebooting A Walk to Remember, and, with the same producers on board this time around, this adaptation should capture the essence of the original. However, there is a good bet that the new reboot will seek to update and modernize the story, with a fresh cast and exciting director. An updated adaptation of the story could resonate with today’s audiences. Romance movies tend to play well with modern viewers, and A Walk to Remember getting a fresh reboot could lead to further Sparks adaptation reboots in the future.
