James Marsden Reveals The Famous Singer/Actor He Wants To Play In A Biopic

James Marsden has revealed the famous singer and actor he wants to play in a biopic, citing the interesting stories that could be told about their life. Marsden’s best movies and shows have seen him portraying characters from all walks of life, from the android cowboy Teddy in Westworld, to Sheriff Tom Wachowski in Sonic the Hedgehog. The variety of roles he’s brought to life showcase his versatility as an actor, able to go from superhero stories like his portrayal of Cyclops in X-Men to being love interest rival Lon Hammond in The Notebook.

Marsden’s most recent role is in the cast of Paradise, a Hulu original series following Secret Service Agent Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown), who is investigating the President’s death. Marsden portrays President Cal Bradford in flashbacks throughout the series, which has earned both critical praise and a season 2 renewal. His next big role will be in the buddy action comedy Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, where he’ll co-star alongside Vince Vaughn. However, there’s one biopic role the actor wants that could prove an interesting combination.

James Marsden Wants To Portray Frank Sinatra In A Biopic

The Actor’s Interest In Portraying The Singer Explained

Marsden has expressed interest in portraying Frank Sinatra in a biopic, citing interest in the singer and actor’s life. Sinatra is considered one of the most popular musicians of the 20th century, having sung a number of classic songs like “My Way” and “New York, New York,” holding a lasting legacy in the industry. He was also a seasoned actor, with Sinatra’s best roles including From Here to Eternity and The Manchurian Candidate. The entertainer was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and Congressional Gold Medal in his lifetime.

Speaking with the New York Post, Marsden explained he wants to play Sinatra in a biopic, citing his love of imitating singers from his time period. The actor also finds the performer’s life interesting, citing plenty of stories, light and dark, that could be brought to life in a movie. Having little experience with biopics, the actor feels making one about the musician would be a good place to start. Check out what Marsden had to say below:

I’ve always loved emulating some of the old crooners, like Bobby Darin and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I always thought there were so many interesting stories of Frank Sinatra’s life that could be played. And for whatever reason, you’ve never really seen a movie about him.

I just think there’s so many stories that could be told about that man – some of the really tortured and darker stories, and some uplifting ones as well. What he did, what he accomplished. I’ve never really done a biopic about somebody.

Biopics about musicians have proven popular over the last decade, with movies from 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody to 2024’s A Complete Unknown earning multiple awards for depicting the lives of Freddie Mercury and Bob Dylan respectively. Marsden stepping into that world as Sinatra could work, since the actor’s versatile career makes him a perfect choice to play the entertainer. While there’s nothing officially in the works, his talents would be a fitting choice for bringing Sinatra’s life to the big screen.
