Descendants 5 Confirmed At Disney, First Cast & Story Details Revealed

Descendants 5 has officially been confirmed at Disney. The Descendants series began in 2015, first telling the story of the teen children of iconic villains such as Maleficent and the Evil Queen. Since then, there have been three Descendants sequels, including Descendants 2, Descendants 3, and Descendants: The Rise of Red. The popular series features musical numbers and performances from actors such as Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart, Rita Ora, Kristin Chenoweth, Melanie Paxson, and Kathy Najimy.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, Descendants 5 is now officially confirmed. The production of the film will begin shortly, and will see Kyle Cantrall, Malia Baker, and Leonardo Nam rerpise their roles. The film will be mostly set in a modern-day version of Wonderland. In addition to the returning stars, Descendants 5 will add cast members including Liamani Segura, Brendon Tremblay, Alexandro Byrd, and Kiara Romero. According to the synopsis, the film will explore whether Red and Chloe really experience “happily ever after” following the events of The Rise of Red, and how they have impacted the “fabric of time.”

What This Means For The Descendants Franchise

Descendants 5 Will Focus On Wonderland

In addition to revealing the new cast members, the Descendants 5 announcement ᴀssigned character roles to their new actors. Segura will play Pink, the sister to Cantrall’s character Red. Nam’s Mad Hatter descendant character, Maddox, will also be getting a sibling, played by Tremblay, who will step in as the Mad Hatter’s other son. Byrd will play Luis Madrigal, the son of Luisa Madrigal of Pixar’s Encanto. Romero will play Hazel Hook, the daughter of the iconic Peter Pan pirate villain Captain Hook.

With these castings, it is clear that Descendants 5 will both be extending the family units of their current characters and introducing new groups. With Red and Maddox both getting siblings for this movie, Descendants 5 can explore family dynamics in a way that has made the series beloved. Given it is set in Wonderland, it makes sense that the film would focus heavily on the Alice in Wonderland character descendants, as these characters would naturally live in this realm.

Our Take On The Descendants News

This Is A Sign That Descendants Will Keep Going

The villains looking smug in Descendants: The Rise of Red.

At the same time, Descendants 5 will extend beyond the classic Disney stories by including characters inspired by newer works like Encanto. I take this as a sign that Disney will try to get as much runway out of this franchise as possible. Now pulling from newer Pixar works, the possibilities for more Descendants characters are nearly endless as Disney and Pixar also start producing new content. Disney is already milking it for Descendants 5, but its character layout suggests that this is far from the last film in the franchise.
