After being rumored to be one of the lead mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the Euphoria stars opens up about whether or not she is joining the X-Men movie reboot. The MCU timeline will soon see the introduction of the X-Men, as a reboot is currently being developed at Marvel Studios. While a release date has not yet been set for the X-Men movie, rumors have already been floating around about who may or may not be eyed for the major reboot.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Hunter Schafer was directly asked about the ongoing rumors that she is being eyed to play Mystique in the new X-Men film for Marvel Studios. Schafer confirmed that she had seen the online buzz and the fan-casting, stating she would be more than game to join the MCU as the famous X-Men character:
I did see [the fan casts]! My dad texted me about that, yeah. Yeah, that would be cool. These fan casts come around every once in a while and it’s always very sweet and always for characters that I really like.
What Hunter Schafer’s MCU Comments Mean For The X-Men Reboot
A prominent actor like Schafer being down to join the MCU franchise, especially for a major role like Mystique, is a reminder that the X-Men reboot looks set to be one of the biggest superhero projects coming up in the next few years. Given the mᴀssive significance of the X-Men in pop culture, it makes sense why the mutants will be a big focus for the MCU after Phase 6 and the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga. While the casting will likely consist of established and unknown stars, there are so many incredible characters that Marvel Studios can play with now that they have the X-Men rights.
What is interesting is that Schafer didn’t directly debunk the rumors about her being eyed for Mystique, but that could speak to the fact that a director has not been hired yet. Even if Marvel Studios and Schafer were meeting for negotiations, she wouldn’t be able to reveal publicly that she is in talks for Mystique in the X-Men film until the former is ready to announce it. It wouldn’t be shocking if, similar to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel Studios wants to have a big and full cast announcement for the X-Men movie when they have tapped all of their stars.

With Schafer being game to join the X-Men movie reboot as Mystique, it would be amazing to see her join the MCU as the popular mutant, as Marvel Studios would be landing an incredible actress for their franchise. Whether or not Marvel Studios is eying Schafer for Mystique remains to be seen, as casting has likely not started yet. But hopefully, as 2025 goes forward, more updates about the X-Men film for the MCU will start to emerge sooner rather than later.
