One Of 2024’s Top Horror Movies Surges To #1 After Making Its Streaming Debut

2024 was a good year for horror movies at the box office and among critics. The year’s two most profitable horror films made over $100 million at the domestic box office. These were franchise hits A Quiet Place: Day One and Alien: Romulus, which brought in $139 million and $105 million at the domestic box office, respectively. Other successful spooky тιтles from last year included the Nicolas Cage-led psychological horror film Longlegs, which made over $125 million worldwide and helped put director Osgood Perkins on the map.

The year was also groundbreaking in terms of how horror films did among critics. Most notably, 2024 saw the release of The Substance, a critically acclaimed feminist body horror film that was extremely well-regarded. The film even went on to be nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture, becoming only the seventh horror film to do so in Academy history. Though The Substance is the most notable awards horror film, it is not the only genre film up for Oscar nominations, for another 2024 horror film was also extremely successful.
