Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Underrated Horror Movie Finds New Streaming Home 10 Years Later

Arnold Schwarzenegger has enjoyed a unique career in Hollywood. He first entered the public eye as a bodybuilder, and he excelled under the pressure. Within just a few years, Schwarzenegger won 19 bodybuilding compeтιтions. By the time he retired in 1975, he had already claimed the тιтles of Mr. Universe and Mr. Olympia multiple times. Even as a bodybuilder, however, he was preparing for the next major stage of his life.

In 1970, Schwarzenegger broke into Hollywood with an appearance in Hercules in New York. He would continue with small roles until he earned a breakout as the leading man in Conan the Barbarian (1982). Schwarzenegger’s best movies came in quick succession, as he starred in The Terminator (1984), Total Recall (1990), and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). He is best known for action movies, which is natural for a bodybuilder, but Schwarzenegger has never been content to avoid drama altogether.

Schwarzenegger spent a decade away from Hollywood between 2003 and 2011, as he was serving as the governor of California.

Why You Should Watch Maggie On Max

They Remain Cult Classics

Upon his return to Hollywood, Schwarzenegger took the opportunity to star in the drama Maggie (2015). He starred as Wade, a father looking to protect his daughter (Abigail Breslin) in a zombie-riddled world. After Maggie is infected, Wade looks after her while they wait for her to succumb to the virus. It was an interesting premise, but it failed to make much of an impact. After all, it failed to earn profitability after earning just $1.6 million at the box office.

The release may have disappointed, but there is still potential for Maggie. A decade after its release, Maggie is coming to Max on March 1. It is currently available on Prime Video, where it has earned a 3.5 out of 5 rating. That marks a considerably better total than its 32% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. The change is curious, but it is possible that this is simply a movie that works better on streaming platforms than in theaters. After all, streaming allows underrated movies to find a wider audience without requiring significant investment from each viewer.

The concept behind Maggie was always going to be divisive. Schwarzenegger is best known as an action hero, so this relatively muted zombie role is completely unfamiliar. Still, it is worth watching. At just 95 minutes, there is little that audiences truly need to invest in this release. On a new platform, an entirely fresh audience can watch and potentially fall in love with this movie. The performances are near-universally loved, and the setting itself is fascinating. Anyone even somewhat considering Maggie should give it a chance.

What ScreenRant Has Said About Maggie:

Maggie isn’t a perfect movie by any means, but it’s a solid freshman debut from director Henry Hobson, who takes writer John Scott III’s script and turns it into something more emotional than just another bloody, action-filled horror movie. At its core, Maggie is essentially an allegory about having to watch a loved one die, and that feeling of helpless as they slowly give in to death – it just so happens the disease in this situation is a zombie plague infection instead of a real world disease, like cancer. 10 Underrated Zombie Movies as Good as The Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ
