Missing Now You See Me 3 Star Finally Comments On Potential Franchise Return

Lizzy Caplan addresses Lula’s potential return in Now You See Me 3

. Following the success of the first film in 2013, Now You See Me 2 was released in 2016, bringing back three of the four members of the Four Horseman magic group. This included J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), and Jack Wilder (Dave Franco), but Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher) was notably absent, with Caplan’s Lula coming in to take her place. Fisher, however, is confirmed to be returning as part of the Now You See Me 3 cast, raising questions about Lula’s involvement.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley to promote the release of Zero Day, which is now available on Netflix, Caplan comments on whether Lula will appear in Now You See Me 3. The actor neither confirms nor denies that she has any involvement in the upcoming sequel, claiming to have no knowledge of the film at all. The fact that she doesn’t deny it, of course, certainly suggests that Lula could be appearing. Check out her comments below:

When the team is on the same page, I would say it’s a bit magic.

Lizzy Caplan: Yes.

I think you know where I’m going with this. Now You See Me 3 is coming out this fall. The fans are begging for Lula to come back. Will you be returning?

Lizzy Caplan: I don’t know.

You don’t know?

Lizzy Caplan: I don’t know.

They’ve already finished production.

They have?

Well, yeah, I would think so. If it’s coming out in the fall-

Lizzy Caplan: It’s coming out in the fall?

That’s what they’re saying. I guess we’ll have to show up in the theater.

What Caplan’s Comment Means For Now You See Me 3

How She Could Return In The Next Movie

The original Four Horsemen will return in Now You See Me 3, which hails from director Ruben Fleischer. Though Lula became a member of the Four Horsemen in the sequel, the confirmation that Fisher would be reprising her role as Henley at first suggested Caplan’s character may not be returning. Caplan’s comments could certainly be read as an answer in the form of a non-answer, and if Lula is returning, the door is seemingly open for the Four Horsemen to become the Five Horsemen.

There’s also the possibility, however, that either Lula or Henley will be operating outside the Four Horsemen in Now You See Me 3. Lula, for example, could return in the new film as an antagonist or at least some kind of opposing force to the Four Horsemen. Or, she could be playing more of a supporting role. Since Caplan very much does not confirm Lula’s return, though, it is still possible that she won’t actually be showing up at all.

Our Take On Lula’s Now You See Me 3 Return

Caplan’s Character Deserves A Comeback

Now You See Me 2 reviews were more negative than the ones for the first film, but the movie was still a box office success. Even though the sequel may not have been as surprising or as charming as the first installment, the cast continued to be one of its greatest strengths. Caplan’s Lula had big shoes to fill coming into the story, but she proved to be a worthy new member of the Four Horsemen and, in fact, a highlight of the film as a whole, meaning it would be great to see the character back in the next movie.

Now You See Me has a 51% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Now You See Me 2 has only a 34%.

Bringing Lula back as an antagonist would be a fun new wrinkle in the franchise, and it could be played as a mirror opposite of the twist from end of Now You See Me involving Mark Ruffalo’s Dylan Rhodes. But, doing this would also rob the movie of what made her character so entertaining in the sequel. It remains to be seen whether Lula will actually show up in Now You See Me 3, but it certainly seems like audiences will indeed have to go see for themselves.
