Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Polls James Bond Fans On Social Media About Who Should Be The Next 007 (& Most Want An Obvious Choice)

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos polls James Bond fans on social media about who should be the next 007, and most people want an obvious choice. Ever since Daniel Craig’s fifth and final portrayal in 2021’s No Time to Die, the franchise’s producers have been conducting an exhaustive search for the next James Bond actor, with some of the most popular fan castings including Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. In 2022, Amazon acquired the Bond distributor MGM, but recently, the company took creative control of the franchise, which is expected to shake up the casting search significantly.

Shortly after Amazon took creative control of the 007 franchise, Jeff Bezos took to Twitter to ask fans who they would pick as the next Bond. Though there are a range of responses from Eddie Redmayne and James McAvoy, the most popular choice appears to be Henry Cavill. Check out a few of the responses below:

What Jeff Bezos’ Poll Means For The Next James Bond Actor

Since the first James Bond movie in 1962, Dr. No, the Broccoli family has overseen the creative direction of the franchise, until now. Amazon, which acquired the Bond distributor MGM in 2022, recently announced a new joint venture with producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to manage the franchise. This move gives Amazon MGM Studios creative control, marking the first time it will be outside the hands of the Broccoli family.

In 2005, Henry Cavill was one of the top contenders for Bond in Casino Royale before Daniel Craig was ultimately cast. Since Craig’s departure following No Time to Die, Cavill has been a betting favorite for his successor. However, Broccoli and Wilson reportedly preferred a younger actor for the role, with one source claiming that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was their top choice. But now, with Amazon taking over creative control and Cavill appearing to be the most popular choice per Bezos’ poll, the actor could be back in play for Bond.

Our Take On Jeff Bezos’ Poll On The Next James Bond Actor

It Certainly Isn’t A Good Look

James Bond Amazon

Jeff Bezos polling social media on who should be the next James Bond certainly isn’t a good look for the company taking over creative control of the franchise. Even if it’s not the case, it certainly gives the appearance that Amazon is outsourcing the casting decision to fans. While audience input can be valuable, it risks reducing a complex casting decision to a popularity contest, potentially undermining the nuanced choices that producers make.
