Anya Taylor-Joy & Miles Teller’s Sci-Fi Horror Movie Sets Apple TV+ Streaming Record

Apple TV+ may have launched less than six years ago to date, but that has not stopped it from becoming one of the streaming services to watch out for. Though platforms like Netflix still have a leg up on it in terms of subscriber count and reputation, Apple TV+ now boasts dozens of original series. Released concurrently with the platform’s launch, For All Mankind is emblematic of the streamer’s quick success. The series is not only critically acclaimed, but it has been popular enough to spawn a spinoff series Star City.

Apple TV+ has several series running right now, including Severance season 2 and Mythic Quest season 4. Though the platform seems to have focused most of its energy on the television sphere, the streamer has also produced a number of films. These have ranged from streaming-exclusive dramas like Greyhound to high-profile theatrical тιтles like Killers of the Flower Moon and The Tragedy of Macbeth. Now, one of their recent films is getting viewership numbers so strong, it just broke records.

The Gorge Breaks An Apple TV+ Record

It Was Released On Friday, February 14

The Gorge has officially set a new streaming record for Apple TV+. The sci-fi horror thriller stars Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy as two operatives who bond after they are tasked to protect opposite sides of a gorge. They must ultimately work together to defeat an evil that is rising up, in a monstrous romance tale. The Gorge is receiving mixed reviews thus far, as the movie currently holds a 64% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅline has revealed that The Gorge has set a new streaming record. The movie has become the biggest premiere in the history of Apple TV+. Though they did not release specific numbers, Apple confirmed this record, and mentioned that the movie aided in double-digit growth globally, boosting new viewership by +80% this past weekend.

The news of The Gorge‘s streaming record was coupled with the streamer’s revelation that Severance had beaten out Ted Lᴀsso to become the streamer’s most-watched original series. This means that Apple TV+ has made it past not one, but two of its personal records this month. This trend is indicative of the positive health of the platform’s original programming, which will hopefully pave the way for them to make Severance season 3 and more exciting sci-fi horror like The Gorge.
