Top Gun: Maverick Director & Producer Reteaming For UFO Conspiracy Thriller

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are reteaming for a UFO conspiracy thriller that’s sparking an aggressive bidding war among studios. The two first teamed up for Top Gun: Maverick, which was a mᴀssive critical and commercial success that made nearly $1.5 billion at the box office and was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and won Best Sound. Kosinski and Bruckheimer reunited for the upcoming F1 movie starring Brad Pitt, which releases in theaters this summer.

Now, the duo are reteaming for another project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kosinski and Bruckheimer are reuniting for a UFO conspiracy thriller that is igniting a bidding war, which is intensifying “quickly and aggressively.” Amazon, Apple, Lionsgate, Paramount, and Warner Bros. are among the studios battling for the project, which comes with a script written by Zach Baylin, who was behind King Richard, Creed III, and the 2024 crime thriller The Order.

What This Means For Joseph Kosinski & Jerry Bruckheimer’s Next Movie

What Is It About?

Details about Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer’s next movie remain scarce, though it is being described as “All the President’s Men with UFOs.” The 1976 film follows two Washington Post reporters investigating the Watergate scandal that brought down President Richard Nixon. Similarly, part of the appeal of Kosinski and Bruckheimer’s UFO conspiracy movie is its authenticity. Former U.S. Air Force officer and UFO whistleblower David Grusch is reportedly serving as a consultant. Grusch gained attention in 2023 when he testified before Congress, claiming that the government has been secretly studying alien spacecraft and bodies and suppressing leaks.

The budget range for the film remains unclear, though it’s being described as a “pricey package.” Top Gun: Maverick was made on a budget of $170–177 million, while F1‘s budget is reportedly a whopping $300 million, though Bruckheimer and Kosinski have refuted that claim. While their past projects were led by A-listers like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, there are currently no stars attached to their next movie.

Our Take On Joseph Kosinski & Jerry Bruckheimer’s Next Movie

It Sounds Promising

A fighter jet coming out of an explosion in Top Gun Maverick

Joseph Kosinski and Jerry Bruckheimer’s collaboration on Top Gun: Maverick was a mᴀssive success, and their next movie sounds incredibly promising. It’s a savvy move to get their next movie greenlit before F1 releases in theaters since, with a reportedly mᴀssive $300 million budget, there’s a very good chance it ends up being a financial failure, as it would need to make about $750 million just to break even. If their past projects, Top Gun: Maverick and F1, are any indication, Kosinski and Bruckheimer’s next movie should end up at Paramount, Warner Bros., or Apple.

F1 releases in theaters on June 27.
